Virginia, congressional Democratic candidate Karen Mallard is under investigation after she posted a video of herself on social media cutting apart an AR-15 rifle to advocate for gun reform, according to a local news report.

The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is investigating Mallard after she posted a video Wednesday on Facebook of herself sawing off the barrel of her husbands rifle.

Several people who replied to the post said Mallard broke the law. Virginias Sawed-Off Shotgun and Sawed-Off Rifle Act prohibits people from having a rifle that has been modified to an overall length of less than 26 inches.

What she did just tells me these people don't actually care about the gun control they're crying about

If she would have turned it in to police she couldn't really have publicized it

So instead of knowing the actual laws in place she decided to go ahead with this stunt for a photo op. Now she looks like an idiot, has done nothing for her cause, broke the law, and possibly destroyed property that wasn't hers. All because she wanted people to see her "do" something

She probably went to a local gun shop and bought the cheapest AR she could get, so cheap in fact that it doesn't even have a back up iron sight or carry handle.

Even though I do disagree with it being illegal to do such a thing, she's the type of politician that pushes these laws so I don't care if that ATF breaks down her door and sends her and her family to federal prison if she so much as took a file to the barrel and made it 15.9999999 inches.

Intent plays an important part of the law, circle jerking about "OMG SBR SBR SBR" is fucking dumb.
A. The weapon could have been rendered inoperable well before she cut the barrel off. There's simply too much plausible doubt to warrant any charges.
B. There is no B, stop being a fuck head.

B. There is no B, stop being a fuck head.

That's clearly not a demilled receiver, she clamped the thing between two pieces of wood so she could cut the barrel down to below 16 inches, the ATF is very literal with the NFA so even if she stripped the lower (which she didn't) the ATF still says once a rifle always a rifle, no ifs or buts about it.
