I don't see any issue at all with giving that as a suggestion?

Do you honestly think they haven't thought of this brilliant idea before? Why mention anything?

Yes it's wrong, and it's really rude to do it. You may not know why one of them can't conceive, and it might be a very sensitive subject to them. (For example a woman has a miscarriage and rips her uterus preventing her from getting pregnant again).

Everyone knows there are kids out there needing adopted, so the suggestion itself is useless.

I said maybe. It's not wrong but it's certainly insensitive because it implies the couple is too stupid to have considered it themselves. To your poll, though, if they're always bringing up that they can't have kids because they like to complain and/or want the pity than at that point it seems fair to point out they have options.

TC's plan is to turn this into a discussion about gay couples.

That seriously never crossed my mind at all when making this topic.

I kind of feel even more fertile couples should consider adoption, because those kids need parents too and family is more than just blood relation. But I wouldn't tell couples what kinds of families they should or shouldn't aspire to.

It's just like going up to a married couple and saying, "So when are you going to have kids?"

It's none of your business, and it's really intrusive. If they wanted kids, they'd have already considered adoption if they couldn't have them normally.

Kind of. But let's break that down a little: when you ask a married couple when they're going to have kids, what you're really asking them is, "So, when are you two going to have a lot of unprotected sex?" That's a LOT creepier than telling people (who probably already know about adoption) that they can/should adopt a child.

There was some couple on CNN who have started panhandling to raise money for experiments to get pregnant. They have been trying for 10 years. At that point just adopt. They are selfish and want a kid that looks like them. Adopted kids need homes

depends on context, I guess

in general I don't see a problem with it. ppl who are 'aware' of options but never seriously consider them can be given a nudge in that direction. it works in other areas of life all the time.

A lot of people are aware of adoption but don't ever consider it because they're so devoted to the idea of making a kid. If someone's just mentioning its existence, I don't see why anyone should get pissy over that.

Frankly if someone did get mad at me over suggesting it, I'd probably follow it up with, "On second thought, don't have kids. You're still clearly a child yourself." At that point it's no longer about how "right" or "wrong" it is - it's about what a whiny little shit they're being.

Itd be more appropriate to ask them if they've ever considered it. That's a pretty big thing to be telling someone else whay they should do
