This is the show that is not only still relivant today but shows how bad PC culture has gotten.

Ironically there was still one dumb bitch back in the 90s that tried getting this show taken off the air.

Al Bundy is the hero we need and the feminists hate him because he tells it like it is.

This is how it used to be in the USA, but I haven't seen it aired on TV, even late night, in a while. I really transitioned away from cable TV to streaming services though, so that could have a lot to do with it.

I came in expecting this post, again. No it wouldn't. Have you seen Family Guy? American Dad? Cleveland Show? South Park? Rick and Morty? Archer? 2 And a Half Men? 2 Broke Girls? Like any television ever?

Not only that, but there were literally protests and groups formed just to protest Married With Children. If you think we have thinner skin now than we did back then, you are just being willfully ignorant.

this. there are shows on cable that say fuck and contain softcore sex scenes. that never happened during the time married with children aired. truth is tv has become less restrictive through the years. married with children also still airs in america during the morning hours.

I was moreso referring to the overly blatant derogatory sexist jokes etc. F bombs and sex is pretty norm now, but in todays world with feminism being a big deal it wouldn't fly.

Again, Family Guy, American Dad, Cleveland Show, etc all rely on that style of humor pretty routinely (and unapologetically). Remember how there was an entire episode where Stan was traumatized by his son's girlfriend being overweight and spent pretty much that entire season only making fat jokes about her?

broke girls had a guy whose entire character revolved around making sexist jokes and that show was pretty loved by girls. like the guy above said charlie from two and a half men was also a blatant sexist. tv getting more pc is just a myth perpetuated by people who are ignorant.

I haven't watched much of any of those so I've been pretty oblivious to it.

Also I didn't hear there was group protestings of the show :/ Though it doesn't surprise me. I guess to a point things haven't changed because there would still be those protests today.

But anyways. Great show nonetheless. Love it unashamedly.

Actually, things have changed, because these types of shows still exist and receive far less backlash. At the time of Married With Children, television was viewed as a family affair and anything with 'blue' humor was usually relegated to late night, where the restrictions were looser.

However, nowadays, we view the medium as a sort of 'something for everyone' situation. As mentioned above, 2 Broke Girls is an excellent case study. The show had characters who were pretty clearly racist caricatures (Sophie was from Poland but acted like she was from a 3rd world country, Hahn was a short, smart, socially inept, greedy Asian business owner) and characters who entire repertoire revolved around some pretty un-PC things (Olaf was constantly making incredibly crass sexist remarks to the protagonists and every other woman he saw). Yet, I'm not aware of any protests for that show.

The jokes were even defensible in an Archie Bunker 'we are laughing at his ignorance' sort of way, either. Speaking of which, Archie Bunker took way more heat than Al and the whole point of his character was that he was an idiot for being a racist/sexist/homophobe, and that was the 70's. A character like him nowadays is common even in family-friendly fare (such as the generally tame Mike and Molly, where Mike's mother would openly make racist remarks with very little anger).

So yeah, we have changed, just in the complete opposite direction you originally implied.

I don't think so. MwC was loaded with Anti-feminist material and fat jokes. There absolutely would be protests against that, and it probably would be cancelled. American Dad features similar material strictly as parody, Stan's entire character is based around mocking conservatives on a regular basis. That's the joke, that Stan is a racist, misogynist, bigoted idiot. It's like how Steven Colbert started his career, posing as a parody of conservatives. Lewis Black quit the Daily Show years before because they wouldn't let him tell jokes about Democrats.

MwC ran the line, as Al was portrayed as a chauvinist and misogynist and was also frequently made a fool of and not taken very seriously, but the persistent jokes about fat women would've gotten them in trouble quickly if this show was made today. Peggy just being Peggy would've been considered extremely sexist and would've gotten the show cancelled, not to mention the portrayal of Kelly.

There's nothing like that now. Feminists would've protested the hell and the liberal media would've shut it down quick.

I just pointed out something incredibly similar that didn't have any protests. 2 and a Half Men was just as bad, if not worse. Zero protests.

You can keep saying "X would riot!" all you want, but you are completely ignoring that shows still do it and there is less uproar over them.

I'm going to have to disagree, on those shows the joke is that the character is looked down on by the viewer as an idiot. In MWC, Al is the hero. Al isn't a representative of something bad, he's the everyman.

No, you are literally ignoring the examples I'm giving.

Here, I'll demonstrate; in one episode of 2 and a Half Men, Alan gets in trouble because Jake says something sexist about how he never wants to get married because he can hire a maid and have a girlfriend and not have to give away half his stuff in front of a woman's support group. Alan is pissed off because Charlie sees nothing wrong with it, but Charlie offers to help. Alan is flabbergasted. Charlie goes over to the support group and saves the day ... by appealing to the women's loneliness and lust and inviting them all over for drinks. Alan is portrayed as an idiot, Charlie as a dashing rouge who saved the day.

In another episode, Charlie meets up with an old girlfriend who has transitioned into a man. You'd imagine that the joke would be that Charlie is over-reacting to it, right? Nope, what follows is literally everyone making hamfisted jokes about how Charlie dated a transgendered person and how funny it is. The title of the episode is literally "an old flame with a new wick".

Yet, I don't recall any uproar over any of this. You know why? Because it never happened.
