Timeline:

Two weeks ago today (2/21), I get lunch with my friend / a recruiter from my old job, to discuss an opening that would be a good vertical move for me.

The day after (2/22), he emails me a personality test that is standard for the company. I take it that day and reply when I finish. He informed me he was out of the office until 2/28, so I knew he wasn't gonna be responsive.

One week ago today (2/28), I get a reply from him

Hey [Muffinz0rz],

[redacted name], Marketing Director, would like to set up a phone interview with you and also set up an interview with the [redacted position] Manager in our [redacted city] office. What does your availability look like the rest of this week and next week for two 30 minute interviews?

Thanks,

I reply same day with some potential availabilities for me, saying let me know what works for her.

I emailed for a follow-up yesterday (3/6) about 24 hours ago (all my emails are done around lunch so I make it look like I'm actually working during normal work hours). Still no reply.

So, yeah, the ball has been in his court for about a week now. As per the bolded part of the email, "the rest of this week" has already passed (since he sent it last week), and we're already over halfway through "and next week."

Was my recent check-in too soon, or would you call it appropriate?

Recruiters are generally terrible at their jobs. I wouldn't have an issue calling and emailing again. I've worked for some very notable companies and recruiters at both were terrible and unorganized. A lot of them work from home too, which makes them even more lazy and inept.

i'm getting that sense. the process from my old job to this one (day 1 being the day the recruiter sent me the linkedin message (September 1st) to my start date (minus a week off between jobs)) was two months.

crazy

This actually worked for me before, but this is better if you're actually talking to the company's recruiter or somebody higher up, not some 3rd party recruiter cuz they don't give a shit

Making a phone call is not pushing it. It's normal. It also makes them realize you're serious. If you're too scared to talk on the phone, you're not worth their time.
