So Im going on a cruise in a couple of months and we booked an excursion to go jumping and sliding off of waterfalls. I can swim ok. You cant touch the bottom, but they give you life jackets.

How does a life jacket even work once youre under water and jump off of a 30 foot waterfall?

Plus im scared of heights. I may just actually die..

What the heck. I've jumped off plenty of waterfalls in my time and have never heard about someone using a life jacket. Anyway you'll be fine, even kids jump off of them. Just make sure you land with your arms and legs as close to your body as possible, like a pin

the life jacket helps search & rescue by putting something bright on your body if youre unconscious and help make your body buoyant regardless of body composition.

you can knock yourself out or the dive may take the wind outta ya from diving at that height with bad form. if u get the wind knocked out of you from a dive, you cannot move. therefore, a life jacket can bring help to you asap.

cliff diving thing I check is that if the water is deep enough for the dive.

What do you mean how does it work? It works the same underwater as it does on the surface. It will apply a constant force pulling you up to the surface

You don't have to do it to understand the very basic concept of a life jacket. O_o
