Tbh in the vast majority of games I couldn't tell you what half the stats do. Dexterity is like...for rangers and archers I thought? And Luck? Ive never felt "lucky" in a JRPG. Dont know why its there.

Then weapons and armor give you mild bonuses to "Hit" (is it different than dexterity?) or Ice Resistance but you dont pay attention to those because generally there's only one armor set thats relevant at any given time, and its always the most recent one.

And what is up with those elemental bonuses anyway? Theyre almost completely useless because you're strong enough to resist the attacks outright or nuke the enemy. Im sure that 5% lightning bonus made the difference against that Water Slime that was already weak to lightning.

Whats the point of all these numbers? >_>

Depends on the game.

I played one on the hardest difficulty where having the proper resistances was the difference between a party wipe and victory.

Yes, especially in Pokemon. Makes sense to have physical attacks on physical characters, and magical/special attacks on magical/special kinda characters, and so on.

In most SNES JRPGs, it's clear which items are better than others, so no I didn't really pay attention to stats.

I care about Pokemon stats when Im older but tbh when I was a kid I beat the games without even understanding what a "special attack" was.

The anime called hyper beam Gyaradoss special attack, so I thought it meant the Pokemons best move lol.

Hell yeah.

Lulu and Auron are terrible in mid-late game because their speed stat is pathetic and they're constantly getting double turned.

I have never once cared about stats in a JRPG unless it was attack or defense.

WRPGs tend to favor stats more and put a greater emphasis on their importance, such as any D&D system

I played to the end of the game using those two almost exclusively though. >_>

lol that is very true for the most part

though I suppose you wouldn't technically know what to give your mages vs your warriors vs your thieves if you didn't look at the stats, there is rarely much of a choice within those different categories

For the main ones I was thinking of there isn't even overlapping loot so even that isn't a consideration lol.
