Louisiana, Cajun and Creole cuisine is my favorite by far. I'm from southeast Texas but culturally this part of the state is closer to Louisiana due to many people settling here from that area.

I saw that NY bbq plate, it was a sad little plate. Texas has beef barbecue on lock IMO, I think South Carolina has us beat on the pork barbecue, they tend to specialize in that.

Texas does have the best beef BBQ. I like Memphis more than the Carolinas for pork, but that is almost certainly a bias. Being in Arkansas is actually really great for BBQ, we are situated right in the middle of all the good styles and we have good representations of all of them

Real, basic, normal, traditional food? Or like up it's ass 'fusion' garbage where everything is an over priced hodgepodge of stuff never meant to go together? Because there's more than enough of that sort of bs here in CA.

So I'm going with and hoping my impressions are correct that it's Texas.
Beef. Burgers, steaks, meatloaf, chicken fried steak. Pork. Fish since they're by the ocean too. Chicken. There's farmland there like in CA so I'm guessing there's a lot of readily available fresh veggies. BBQ!

Basically, for most types of international cuisine, the answer is NYC. NY also wins the crown for pizza, and I'd even argue best steak. It has quite a few holes, however.

Best sushi goes to CA and Hawaii. Native Hawaiian food is trash, though.

Best Asian food goes to CA (San Fran specifically).

Best BBQ is split between several states depending on what style you like -- Kansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, with honorable mention to Missouri and Georgia.

Louisiana owns cajun and creole food, which is great.

p good analysis. Though i'm surprised Illinois/Chicago isn't getting some pizza recognition.

personal preference is Louisiana/Cajun. The varying foods/spices, whew, slap my momma with the hand of an angry god type of good.

Chicago for pizza? Yeah, I totally want a bowl of sauce.

I know Mexican food. I haven't had much good Mexican outside of NM. Some in Arizona, Colorado, and maybe very rarely Texas (mostly west Texas I think, because Tex Mex takes over fast once you get into TX proper). Anyway I haven't had any Mexican outside of that worth a crap. Just poor attempts at it, that includes Cali. Generally I just don't bother ordering it because it will suck.
