I mean, in the sense that is in every way inferior to its direct competition. It's more expensive, does less, has the worst digital assistant and is locked to a single media ecosystem - one that, ironically, is compatible with the other devices. In other words, when you buy a Google Home or Amazon Echo, you basically get a HomePod plus more.... For less money.

And the saddest part is that it isn't any easier to set up or use.
