A man and woman in a New York City suburb were arrested Friday after the woman allegedly dumped a container of popcorn on a 2-year-old who talked during a movie, Nassau County police said.

Authorities arrested Keri Karman, 25, and Charles Karman, 61, who were both charged with endangering the welfare of a child in connection with a Jan. 2 incident.

A 28-year-old mother had taken her young daughter to a movie theater in Levittown, Long Island, police said. When the little girl asked for some popcorn, a woman sitting next to the girl allegedly verbally attempted to quiet the 2-year-old.

The girls mother told the woman not to talk to her daughter, police said, at which point the woman allegedly started screaming and cursing at the pair before covering the girls mouth with her hand.

The woman then allegedly proceeded to dump popcorn over the 2-year-olds head and hit her with the empty container, police said.

The little girl reportedly started to cry and the woman, and the man she was with, reportedly took off from the theater.

A doctor examined the 2-year-old after she said her head hurt and determined that she had a contusion, police said.

Along with their charges, the Karmans, both from Baldwin, N.Y., were issued appearance tickets, police said.

i mean when you conflate that with the fact that she assaulted a 2 year old in seemingly an instant and was at a movie that a 2 year old could be at I think you could assume that is the case...I kind of wish they mentioned what movie it was >_>

Also depending on how hard its thrown a contusion from a popcorn bucket isn't that crazy. the bigger ones have fairly hard bottoms that are edged. I can see how that can harm a 2 year old.

yea i fully understand being upset but that kind of mentality is just wrong to me. In this case the person who hurt your child is not going to hurt them again. if you act irrationally and do something to that person you are doing more damage to your child by putting yourself in a position where you'll be going to jail/having to deal with more severe charges for the rest of your and their life. That's selfishness under the guise of "protecting my child!"

I said depending on what the movie was, and given how the person acted at said movie (again, EVERYTHING together), I can understand how one could assume that that is a possibility...I never said "every adult who goes to movies with their parents has issues"....

1) Why would you bring a 2-year-old to watch a movie?
2) You don't know what the 2-year-old was doing to trigger the assailant actions. Obviously the parent will say "oh no she was an angel; she didn't do anything!".
3) "Verbally attempted to quiet" may mean as little as a "shh".
4) How would a child get bruises from getting smacked with a paper cup?
5) Why would you dump popcorn and hit a child? If anything, dump popcorn and hit the mom.

Then again I wouldn't bring a two year old to a public place, especially a restaurant or movie where I'd be actively hampering the enjoyment of others. Because I'm not a complete asshole.
