His brother told Palm Beach County Sheriffs deputies last week that he and his friends, when they were younger, had bullied Nikolas, which he now regrets ever doing, the agencys report says. The deputy wrote that Zachary wishes that he had been nicer to his brother and that there may be resentment between the two as Nikolas may have been the favored brother.

But their life story soon took an unexpected turn.

When Nikolas was 5, he was in the den with his father. His mom was in the kitchen, the friend said.

Nikolas came down the hallway and he went to his room, and he was crying. She said, Whats the matter, did Daddy punish you? Just as clear as day, he said, Nope. Daddys dead.

Not to excuse this piece of shit in any form, but this is pretty traumatic for a 5-year-old.

Nikolas wasnt an easy child. He had been diagnosed with a string of disorders and conditions: depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, emotional behavioral disability and autism, records from the state Department of Children and Families show. His mom told sheriffs deputies he also had obsessive-compulsive disorder and anger issues.

Single mom raising two kids, including one with a pretty long list of disorders. These are the kinds of things an effective mental health program should screen as a red flag.

I mean, it's all a red flag. A giant one with horns, when all added together.

Depression and autism are rarely characterized by violence and when they are it's to themselves as coping methods. Can't say I'm familiar enough with ADHD beyond the drugs prescribed to keep them focused.
