You can only carry a limited number of personas at a time, so don't be hesitant about fusing them. You can also pay some money to retrieve copies of personas you previously owned.

One thing you should try to do is keep a persona of the same arcana as whoever you're developing social links with on hand (since it makes the social links level up faster). E.g. if you're planning on hanging out with Ryuji make sure to have a chariot persona with you (doesn't need to be equipped).

You wont get that confidant for quite a while. Go ahead and do it.

Remember that the persona you create by fusion can themselves become fusion material for even stronger personas later.

Also, make sure you know how the compendium works. You need to register personas that have changed since last time you visited the Velvet Room. However, this also means that if you bond with a baseline persona in a Palace, you might accidentally overwrite your awesome leveled-up persona you made beforehand if you just blindly register it!

You'll be able access the Velvet Room outside of dungeons too. A doorway will appear near the airsoft shop at some point soon.

Which means you can go there anytime before you hang out with a confidant in case you forget to grab a persona of the right arcana before leaving a dungeon.

you can save a copy of a persona but if you get a new weak version of that persona later you might accidentally overwrite the data of the good persona

When you fuse a new persona or gain a new persona from talking, it's automatically registered into the compendium as is.

When you level up a person and learn new skills and get stat bonuses, those changes AREN'T automatically registered. You have to do it yourself in the Velvet Room. So if you leveled up a persona and it learned new skills, make sure to register it before you fuse it into something else, so that way if you want to rebuy it, it'll still have those skills and stat boosts.

What that also means is if you fuse away some cool demon, but then you acquire it again through talking or whatever and it's just the base form without any new skills, be careful NOT to register that one since it will overwrite the cool one and you'll lose whatever development it used to have.

At some point you can get SP recovery items, I'm not sure if that's gated behind an event or social link.

The first dungeon is one of the hardest in the game, so don't feel bad if it takes you a while to get through it. You'll be able to maintain your SP better as the game goes along.

Also getting Takemi SL going eventually lets you buy an equip item to gradual restore your SP every turn in battle

AKA the best accessories in the game. They're really expensive but oh so incredibly worth it, to the point where I put them on my active party and didn't take them off for the entire game.

Also some of the vending machine drinks you can buy in the real world will restore a little SP. They're valuable because most SP-restoring items are rare and expensive.

You can leave whenever you want after the first couple times where they force you to leave.

If you're in a Palace the day ends when you leave. Usually this is your choice; during the introduction for each Palace there's a sequence on rails where you'll go through a few rooms and then your characters make you leave. Sometimes you have to leave a Palace to progress further, but the game is always good about telling you when that's going to happen.

I always just finish it in one day unless you're forced out.

It kind of sucks to reach a point where you think "oh this is good place to take a break" and leave only to come back and find out right after that was a place where you're forced to take a break and leave anyway.

There are a couple social links that really help with time management, that are really handy to level up quickly. I'll spoiler them in case you don't want unasked for help like this.

Fortune: It unlocks an option that gives you bonus points for social link progression once per day (for a $5000 fee) without passing any time.
Temperance: It unlocks various methods of giving you more free time for reading/crafting, or getting SP-restoring items/equipment, and eventually it'll give you your nights back after leaving the metaverse. The SP items require some development of the Hierophant link though.

What's great about P5 compared to P3/P4 is every social link in the game gives you some benefit to gameplay. It's just some are more beneficial than others.

To clarify, the way it works is you'll reach a big impassable obstacle, there'll be a cutscene where your characters say "hey I know how to deal with this, let's go home", and you'll be free to wander the Palace killing shadows and collecting small-T treasure all you want but unable to make progress towards the big-T Treasure until you leave and come back.

IIRC 1->2 is the slowest gain for all social stats, so it'll be a bit.

I know it is for Knowledge to prevent you from topping the class on the first exams
