Yes or No?

i had been reading a few comments whining about the majority of the modern movies being unoriginal, do you agree or disagree?

Obviously they only care about money, that's what ANY industry is. As far as running out of ideas, well yeah, obviously. I'm trying to remember the last time I actually went out to the movies and I'm realizing it was Don Jon, which was a 2013 release. I'm just not seeing anything coming out of Hollywood right now that's worth my money.

I like the Marvel Universe and what it brings to the table with using the same characters and having a huge timeline to do things

However I do not like it with Starwars. Ive enjoyed exploring the Starwars universe vastly more with the games

Now that I think of it, I only like the MU reusing and making sequels for now. But maybe we should embrace the crap. One day there will be not enough time in a life span to enjoy all the movies or TV shows you'd like...

I'm sick of it. Hollywood hasn't had an original idea in a hundred years. I long for the times when all movies were completely original and the thought of a sequel or adapting some other story were completely unheard of.

What times were those? Gone with the Wind and Wizard of Oz were the 30s

is there a source that actually makes a good top movies list to watch from last year?

i'm personally so tired of the endless superhero movies and crappy action scenes that never end.

Gone With the Wind & Wizard of Oz are adaptations.

Yes, that's my point. There was no time when adapting some other story was "completely unheard of"

i'm just really fucking sick of the cinematic universes (where there's no end in sight and watching a movie is basically just buying into a franchise you feel obligated to watch) and movies that are based on nostalgia for children's toys from the 90s

It's not that they have ran out of original ideas, the issue is that original ideas are risky when they have a formula that pretty consistently prints money, why chase risk?

They are all about money though.

It's very arguable that the annual batch of obvious oscar-bait fits this mold as well.

..and Technically the '39 Wizard of Oz was a remake, as there was a Wizard of Oz made in 1925.
