I was in the 9th grade and I was going to this super conservative high school in Indiana. People were literally saying they wanted him assassinated, that they thought he was a muslim terrorist, saying really racist things, etc etc.

It kinda ruined the election for me like it made it REALLY hard to enjoy the election win. It didn't help I was on the football team at the time so all my friends were dumb jocks who would say racist shit about him every five seconds >_>

I was a sophomore in college. There was a big group of people walking around chanting "Yes we can!".

I was in 9th grade too, I went to a 70% black school so there was a lot of celebrating. I was happy about it too

I'd just finished up college, and even when he was first elected I knew things were going to suck. And here we are now, racism is cool again, kids don't know what bathroom to use, workforce participation dropped dramatically, we managed to add ten trillion dollars to the debt with stagnant economic growth to show for it. By quantifiable measures, the Obama presidency was a disaster, but everyone with a brain knew that before it even started.

A friend of mine who's an idiot thought "inauguration" meant breast implants/augmentation

So the joke between us all was Obama sitting in the Oval Office playing with his breast implants. "Well I said there'd be change"

Personally I thought he was cool, but I was also pretty apolitical at this point in my life so didn't really pay much attention.

I was in 10th grade.

My AVID teacher had us watch the Democrat and Republican conventions on TV. I remember thinking the Democrat one was cool but the Republican one was boring.

My school offered a program to allow students to go to the inauguration, so I went.

The biggest thing I remember is the shocked look on my mom's face. She never thought she would see a black president in her lifetime. She was completely speechless when she saw "BARACK OBAMA ELECTED 44TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES" on the TV.

I was in 8th grade, so I remember very little about the 2008 election outside hacky YouTube comedy videos. I remember the week following the election I heard something about a 9th grader from the high school I later attended trying to kill himself because of the election by swallowing a bunch of pills. I also remember the inauguration; I was in the computer lab at my school & we watched it in class, and I was mad that the inauguration ceremony interrupted the game of Bubble Trouble I was playing.

I was a sophomore in high school, and entirely obsessed with this girl. I remember thinking only that the president's ability to enact change was being blown out of proportion (I wouldn't have been aware of the Democratic victories in the Senate).
