James argues, accurately, that there are differences between men and women, evolutionary biologist Heather Heying said during the panel discussion. This is a strange position to be in, to be arguing for something that is so universally and widely accepted in biology. . .You can be irritated by a lot of truths, but taking offense, here, Heying paused as hecklers shouted and began to walk out is a response that is a rejection of reality.

A non-student protester then yanked the cables from the sound system and shoved the equipment to the ground, breaking an antenna. She was promptly detained by police. [Damores] a piece of shit! she screamed as she was issued a citation for criminal mischief in the second degree. Even the women in there have been brainwashed! Another protester stated: Nazis are not welcome in civil society.

I still find is unreal how nobody can just have a calm, intelligent debate anymore. It just goes 0 to 100 as soon as they hear something they don't agree with, and they immediately transform into a savage beast, complete with foaming at the mouth.

It hasn't always been like this, right?

I dont know. Both men and womens brains are different physically and biochemically and as much as leftists cry sexist, there are indeed traits that are more prevalent in men and not women and vice versa. Memory is a perfect example. Men tend to have better short term memories, women tend to have better long term memories. This isnt up for debate. Its just how it is. This article does a good job outlining differences. Clearly its not always true, there are exceptions, but for most members of a sex it is.

Enjoy.

The problem is it works. So people will keep using it to shame their opponents. And then it'll stop working. And then actual Nazis will be able to run uncontested in Republican primaries because the tactic has been abused so badly nobody takes it seriously anymore.

And then we're Wiemar Germany.

Emotional left-wing rhetoric can't be defended using logic or intelligent arguments, so the remedy for this cognitive dissonance is temper tantrums and attempting to silence the folks who will expose their positions.

Just to clarify, there are liberal intellectuals who can and do easily defend their positions, but the far-leftists and regressives who think statements like "men and women are biologically different" is offensive are the ones who have no other tactics at their disposal.

IMO I think its because debate isn't encouraged or taught. I'd openly support making debate a required subject in high school. I think too many people don't even know how to defend their opinions so when they're challenged it's like a personal insult, and so they rely on personal insults in response. Everything is an axiom, which means nothing has to be justified, and anyone who questions you is objectively wrong.

It's like in college when a professor showed me the ~4 page proof on why 1+1=2 to remind us that anything we take as fact has at some point been proven, and it's an extremely difficult process sometimes, which is why we should always question something we're being asked to take at face value that's the crux of a proposed solution.

Honestly I wish they did. Say what you will about Jon, but he's the only one who was willing to regularly go on conservative shows and bring conservatives on his show to talk issues, rather than rely on cropped soundbytes and one-liners to "beat" the opposing opinion. I thought his appearance on Crossfire was brilliant, and I sorely miss the debates he had with O'Reilly. Jon poked fun, but he was always willing to listen and engage as well.

It's deconstructionist theory. Academics love Derrida because you can endlessly disassemble any debate topic into sufficiently small component pieces to draw literally any conclusion you want.

I love how the the left always says shit like nazis are not allowed in civil society yet they are the ones who riot, use violence, and once angered attack the opposing side instead of talking/debating.

So many of the left who claim be civil are the same people who just start cussing and spitting at people asking why do you believe this ?, explain ____ to me or want to know their pov.

Why are they almost always so hostile ?, can they not express their view without attacking people ???

i think one of the things that makes the left less likely to call this sort of thing out is a sort of awareness that the right is a continuous echo chamber, and, again, there is a race to the bottom.

interrupting your own side's narrative to try to tone-police is fundamentally harmful to it.

But there's danger in not engaging, too. Agree or disagree with most of the things Jordan Peterson has said, but I thought he made a great point once in that the left is empowering the right in refusing to engage in discussion, because when someone is asking "why" and one side refuses to engage but the other is willing to talk, people are going to have to choose which side to trust, and the side opening a dialogue and trying to justify their position is going to look more reasonable.

The real irony is I used to be a democrat and more liberal in my thinking, all that changed the moments I was attacked for liking guns, being accused of being a sexist, and for saying I had no dog in the fight for LBGT issues not being for or against.

The day I turned from being a liberal however was when a man hating modern feminist claimed I was a rapist waiting to happen when I was still a virgin a few years ago.

I think a large portion is that it's now the self esteem / participant trophy generation. People that have never really faced a challenge to their ego or given a dose of humility about how little they actually know about anything. They have decided they are 100% right and can never be wrong so the only people that would claim otherwise must be some evil space alien.

Yet at the core it's just whiny kids afraid someone is saying they're wrong or "here's the unintended side effects" in a way they can't (or would have to work hard to) properly counter.

And see, that's the problem. Everyone, and I'll include myself in this, tends to have their own head shoved so far up their own partisan ass and feels that they know everything about every issue that when they see something they disagree with they fundamentally dismiss it at every level and resort to slinging shit back and forth. And I'm not acting like I have the answers in how to solve it, but a huge step would be in people acknowledging that they themselves do it
