If the airplane thing didn't convince him to start taking his weight seriously, hopefully this will.

He lost a lot of weight by dieting in the last couple years, but Im not sure about his overall activity level. Its great that they were able to get him to the hospital immediately, and I hope he recovers quickly.

At first I thought this was the King of Queens/Paul Blart guy and then I remembered that was Kevin James.

Kevin Smith is worse for me tbh. Hope he gets better.

Not gonna lie, seeing Clerks in high school is part of what inspired me to pursue a career in film.

Love this guy, hope he pulls through alright.

He is one of my inspirations too. He showed the world that everyone can make a movie on a small budget.

Clerks is one of the best movies.
While I enjoy his other movies, clerks was still his best, had a raw feel to it and anyone that worked any retail job with customers could relate to it.

He actually wasn't fat anymore, the last time I saw him. This would be due to the extreme amount of smoking that he does.

Dude lost weight, but he needs to lay off the weed and start exercising more.

Seems weird he doesn't do this after his whole father dying screaming story.

Dude that shit blew my mind. He did it without studios, real gear, or even professional actors.

He spent $30,000 and shot it where he worked. That's so freaking cool.

There's definitely something special that he lost with his later films.

And this why it pisses me off when he makes crappy movies like a lot of the ones he put out now. He's a very talented director, but it seems like he would only make a good film every once in a while when he basically felt like it and I know he can if he really wanted to.

Clerks worked because it limited what he could do, he sometimes does the goofy stuff too much in his later movies and doesn't realize when to scale it back a hit. Clerks II is a great example of this, since its still good, but that abc dance scene is absurd.

Im a big fan of Kevin Smith, but I think he would agree that hes not really talented. His success, which I think hes described as modest, has been more due to his work ethic and love of movies and movie-making. Even he seems stumped as to how to actually make a really good movie and is constantly praising other directors as being much better than him. Either way, Im glad he made quite a few films, but I always accepted that for every one decent movie he made, there were probably three or four bad ones coming our way.

I was trying to do a killer standup special this evening but I mightve gone too far. After the first show, I felt kinda nauseous. I threw up a little but it didnt seem to help. Then I started sweating buckets and my chest felt heavy. Turns out I had a massive heart attack. The Doctor who saved my life at the #glendale hospital told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (also known as the Widow-Maker because when it goes, youre a goner). If I hadnt canceled the second show to go to the hospital, the Doc said I wouldve died tonight. For now, Im still above ground! But this is what I learned about myself during this crisis: death was always the thing I was most terrified of in life. When the time came, I never imagined Id ever be able to die with dignity - I assumed Id die screaming, like my Dad (who lost his life to a massive heart attack). But even as they cut into my groin to slip a stent into the lethal Widow-Maker, I was filled with a sense of calm. Ive had a great life: loved by parents who raised me to become the individual I am. Ive had a weird, wonderful career in all sorts of media, amazing friends, the best wife in the world and an incredible daughter who made me a Dad. But as I stared into the infinite, I realized I was relatively content. Yes, Id miss life as it moved on without me - and I was bummed we werent gonna get to make #jayandsilentbobreboot before I shuffled loose the mortal coil. But generally speaking, I was okay with the end, if this was gonna be it. Ive gotten to do so many cool things and Ive had so many adventures - how could I be shitty about finally paying the tab. But the good folks at the Glendale hospital had other plans and the expertise to mend me. Total strangers saved my life tonight (as well as my friends @jordanmonsanto & @iamemilydawn, who called the ambulance). This is all a part of my mythology now and Im sure Ill be facing some lifestyle changes (maybe its time to go Vegan). But the point of this post is to tell you that I faced my greatest fear tonight... and it wasnt as bad as Ive always imagined itd be. I dont want my life to end but if it ends, I cant complain. It was such a gift. #KevinSmith

He's a nonstop chain smoker of tobacco and marijuana. And he was once kicked off a plane for being too fat to fit in the seat.
