IIRC the cheapest strategy is to summon Tinkerbell and then park yourself on one of the vines at the edge of the arena while waiting for Goofy to whittle her HP down.

Chernabog just requires you to retreat every so often, he's not very hard once you get the timing down.

He wasn't a very memorable boss, outside of sharing a strategy with another boss that actually is memorable.

Seriously, Tinkerbell was so OP she was one of the few things they nerfed in the Final Mix version, and she was STILL OP then. You don't even need Aero spells, just equip as much Stronger boosting accessories as you can and let Tink keep you alive

Yeah, IIRC they made it so using her sucked up Donald and Goofy like every other summon, reduced the frequency of her heal, and her revive brings you back with less HP total now.

Still broken as shit lmao

I'd say Night On Bald Mountain was the reason but that wasn't added until the NA release. But he is decently popular because of that music, so I guess it would still count.

He's playing Final Mix since he said it's 1.5, but I agree. I'd love to hear your setup. I just can't see Chernabog being that difficult, but that may just be confirmation bias since I've beaten this game at least 20 times

Giving up the shield is probably the worst thing you can do. Your base defense is hindered due to that. I tend to pick the shield and drop the sword. Picking the shield gives you an extra armor slot and higher base defense. Dropping the sword lowers your base attack, but you do so much damage in this game regardless it doesn't really matter. You can also give up the staff, since the only magic really worth using is Aeroga/Curaga.

Accessories really make or break the game tbh but the rest of that looks OK. Giving up Shield will always make you a bit squishier.

Divine Rose is a fine weapon but you might want to drop it for one of the higher Str, longer reach weapons that reduce your MP if you're not casting much. Believe it or not, a gain of even a couple points of Str makes a huge difference in your damage output.

This late in the game you wanna start looking for some Omega Arts accessories for Sora if you're going full Melee. Big stat boosts. You'll get one for free soon for beating a boss, I think there's another in a chest just past Chernabog if you explore the weird invisible maze room, but the rest you'd need to craft in the Synthesis shop.

Also, if you've not got it equipped Ars Arcanum is pretty much god tier for an ability. Pulled off correctly it's 13 keyblade strikes and you get invincibility frames for the whole attack. Strike Raid also gives you a long range Str based attack and is pretty much required to beat a certain hidden boss in the Colloseum.

Final point: There are a number of hidden bosses you can fight now, and you can access everything the Colloseum has to throw at you. If you try you can probably get past the final boss with your current setup but there's a lot more content if you want more to do. I'd recommend crafting the Ultima Weapon keyblade if you intend to take on optional stuff tho. If you want tips for getting the materials for that let me know

Yeah. In 1.5 the shield is definitely the way to go. The staff was great in the original though
