Topic	It took me 14 years but I finally beat dragon maleficent in Kingdom Hearts. Dope

It flat out gave you one extra MP that you couldn't get with any other form, and in the original spell damage was determined by your max MP. Spellcasting was COMPLETELY broken in the original if you equipped nothing but MP boosting gear. In 1.5 they made the magic system more like KH 2's magic system which removed all this, unfortunately xD Yeah. In 1.5 the shield is definitely the way to go.
