I believe that by taking the second amendment away and banning guns, positive change could happen, but it definitely wouldn't be quick change. There would still be guns everywhere in America. Still, I think the ends would justify the means.
Imagine what America would be like today if guns were banned right after Columbine. I'm willing to bet it would be less violent and much safer now.
Guns are very ingrained in American culture though. Gun violence in America will not be an easy problem to fix and I doubt it will EVER get better tbh.

I'm sure I could take more than one with me though. I'm in a house. It's a fortified position. My front lawn is not.

I made it through my childhood years without either of my parents ever owning a gun. It seemed to work out alright.

It generally doesn't, unless you've done something to invite it (like joining a gang, for instance). Your odds of being killed by a random person breaking into your house and opening fire are roughly on par with getting hit by lightning - how are you protecting your kids against that?

I think you're vastly overestimating your own resourcefulness if you think the police would take any significant casualties in any such conflict. Most importantly and most disappointing, people can't tell the difference between a right and an illegal activity. Owning a gun is a right, not an illegal activity that should be admonished. In comparison, murder is an illegal activity that is rightfully punished. Yet people can't tell the difference.
