. I'm looking at the teacher pay for a town next to me and there's people there making $55,000+..... from their PENSIONS.

**After 30 years of teaching

Nah that's not much more than what teachers start at here in New York.

Like I said, I know multiple teachers that make almost six figures who've been at it for only like 5-10 years.

It depends on the district. Rich areas have high teaching salaries because of high property taxes plus the people in that area want good teachers to teach their kids

no no no all of america is the same

Teachers in May: "You guys have NO IDEA how HARD our job is!"
Teachers in June: "Woo, off for ten weeks!"

do you want to trade jobs with someone who works on an oil rig for 4 months then spends one month at home then

Even better, theres some jobs on ships or oil rigs or some naval buildings that are month on, month off, with exceedingly high pay and you arent on call during off months and still get weekends during on months. Thats like the perfect job

Dude, be honest. Who has been saying that teaching is the hardest profession? It's an underrated job and lots of teachers get frustrated with the extra work and lack of respect from parents. Primary level (i.e. elementary school) can be especially taxing because you have to cover several subjects (high school typically covers one subject per teacher) and you have to be trained and responsible for children, as opposed to young adults. I think most schools now include special needs students as well. It's not an easy job and everyone wants to throw you under the bus when the children don't excel or have disciplinary issues.

Teacher salaries in and around NJ and NY can't be compared nationally.

8 of the highest property tax counties in the entire fucking country are Westchester, Nassau, Hunterdon, Bergen, Rockland, Union, Morris, and Hudson. NJ is the highest by average in the country.

It depends. They decide if they will receive their pay equally through the year (i.e. paid even in the summer) or they get paid just through the months they work. The salary should remain the same either way, thus the first option gives smaller but more evenly distributed pay, while the second option is bigger pay but for less pay periods. (Sorry, this probably varies from state to state.)

That's a hard question to answer, because teachers don't turn in time sheets. Their salary can be distributed over 9 months or 12 months in most states, but they aren't hourly, so it's not as if any work they do over the summer is compensated extra or anything like that.

It's sort of like asking "Does *insert salaried job* get paid over the weekends?"

Topics like this is a good way to weed out morons who know absolutely nothing about life. Teaching is one of those jobs that you can only really understand by being in a troubled spot in life, or being a teacher trying to do good. I know alot of teachers that takes their job seriously, and that entails so much more than just grading. They spend enough time with the kids, that alot of them end up being almost like a secondary parent, and would be one of the first to identify home life problems, and how they should handle them. There are alot of other things to, especially for inner cities school, but those who understand know what I mean.

To be fair, they make better money.
