I haven't watched every episode, but there were some I thought were really good, like the Mel Brooks one, the Barack Obama one, the Jon Stewart one. But people in this topic are right: once you get successful as a comedian, it's hard to get back down to "the trenches" and connect with the commoners. You're now among the celebrities with celebrity friends and celebrity tastes, and basically any work you do is reflecting that, and you're just relying on your charm instead of going into the comedy club lab of finding what jokes work and what don't. He has flat out said in interviews that he's using the same material he did 20 years ago except he tweaks it to fit a more modern world. His command of a bad joke turned it into a "good one" when he was performing it.
