Lots of highschoolers around 16-18 into fitness/athletics can have physiques that look photoshopped. However, most of them lose out to naturally gaining weight that often comes with the freedoms of adult age. Part of the reason is that most of these young adults no longer live at home with the strict controls of guardians, so they're very susceptible to binging on junk food, getting less sleep, consuming more soda & booze, and drinking less water the moment they move out. A lot of new bachelors/bachelorettes also lack cooking skills, so they're more likely to eat instant/microwaveable stuff and run for fast food.

Put bluntly: it's a recipe for getting flabby.

Some people, regardless of how fit and good looking they were in their teens, are also too "gym shy" to find a dedicated place to work out despite gyms being one of the most practical places for them to do that as adults.

Young women fresh out of highschool might be too intimidated by the amount of men roaming at fitness locations and a couple creepers is could be all it takes to paint the whole gym world as a scary cesspool. Even too many hot guys can send a shy girl running back home.

Young men might become competitively disillusioned when they find out their buff highschool jock bod is nothing compared to a seasoned adult gym rat. And if the young guys aren't social enough, they're more likely to bail the gym scene altogether than bother asking the local gurus for guidance.
