I kind of low-key hate the fact that the United States has appropriated the term "American" when there are several other countries on both North and South America who should be able to equally lay claim to it. Canadians are from North America, so they are also Americans. As are Mexicans. And since people from Brazil, Argentina, etc. are from South America, they can claim to be American just the same as those from North America.

I mean, I get that those of us from the USA don't really have a quick name like "Canadian" or "Brazilian" (nobody's stupid enough to think "USA-ian" is acceptable), but it still feels really egotistical to claim two entire continents' worth of naming rights, no?

The translation to the way we call you in Spanish would be something like United Statesian.

I think "Statesman" could work, tbh. Shame that it's far too late to change it now. :-/

Too long-winded. I've always said "I'm from the U.S." when traveling. I don't believe I've ever actually used the phrase "I'm American" personally.

Since it looks like you just made this topic to do the old American demonym debate, Ill just reply to that. You shouldnt have a problem with folks in the US calling themselves Americans since Spanish speakers throughout the Americas will refer to themselves like that too. Brazilians will call themselves Americans and its purely in reference to the continent. They dont have the word America in their countrys formal name, like how the US and Mexico do.

I only hear people call themselves Americans in my state, and Im in a border region. So I think your anecdote about never using that is...great, but Im in the exact opposite position from my experience. Ive always heard, Are you an American citizen?

Mexico doesn't have "America" in it's official name, nor do we call ourselves Americans unless we're refering to our continent. If you ask anyone in America except those in the US where they are from, you'll hear them say they are Canadian, Mexican, Brazilian, Chilean, etc 99/100 times.

But the USA's defining part of their name is America, so there's not much you can do about it, it's just the way things are.

Only if you're referring to the Scholar of the First Sin edition. I'd still disagree, but I could at least see the argument. The original vanilla Dark Souls 2 was kind of a mess, tbh.

Part of what made it good was that people could choose which version they liked best.

SotFS was a fucking pain in the ass in a lot of places, especially in the beginning (statues everywhere, multiple Pursuers, Heide's Tower, etc.). I got all the achievements in SotFS and played through the last gen version a few times, but I still prefer the latter.

Ripping on an older game for its graphics, especially if the graphics in question actually look stellar for its time and holds up today, is the fastest way to make yourself look ignorant and stupid.

I'd argue that it's also better than 8.1 and 7 too if we're just talking about basic stuff.

Well - depends on the distro.

I feel the same way when people talk about how "the controls don't hold up."

Like...are they fucking stupid? The controls are exactly the same today as they were the day the game came out. They didn't just release a patch yesterday for Mario 64 that forces you to control the camera with the stick and move Mario with the C-buttons, ffs. If the controls were great back then, they're still great now. Fuck outta here with that shit. -_-
