The only way, is to stream them to your PS3, but you need to use a computer and some software to do that.

There's several programs that'd let you convert this to a useable format with ease. Mkvtoolnix is my choice.

If they're already on your HD you can either:

- Use a free program to burn them to a video DVD (why?)

Or
- Use the library of free conversion programs on the internet convert your files from .mkv to .mp4 or .avi or any other file format your ps3 actually can read. And then copy and paste it to a flash drive

I don't think the ps3 can read re-writable dvds anyway. And 4gb flash drive are like two bucks at CVS.

So then convert the files on your HD to one your ps3 can read, and try writing it to your rw-dvd. Why are we still talking about this?

So the PS3 won't play the .mkv files off the DVD they're on, and you can't rip them off the DVD they're on to convert them... I guess if the videos you're trying to watch are like a TV show or something, you might be able to find and re-download those videos to get them on your computer, then convert them to the right format from there if necessary. But if those videos on the DVD are are one-of-a-kind videos (like if you recorded them yourself) then I think you're SOL at this point.

You can't just rewrite your rewritable dvd with the new files?

Most blank dvds are not re-writable. Some are, they have slower write speeds and don't last as long in my experience. If it is re-writable, it will identify itself as such, often using the abbreviation DVD-RW. My experience with fickle recording media and somewhat obtuse writing software from early last decade is largely what pushed me to move all my storage to portable hard-drives, but sometimes you need to play something on a medium that isn't a computer. For what you're trying to do, a flash drive would almost certainly work better. Short of that you're going to need to download some DVD writing software that will essentially let you author a video DVD.
