Board 8 > Are there any good arcade racers out there?

I haven't played a racing game proper since like, Gran Turismo for the PS2. Which I didn't really like because it was too complicated and realistic. But I have noticed more and more lately that cars and racing are my favorite parts of open world sandbox games.

Are there any arcade racing games out there worth picking up?

Is the Forza series arcade at all, or is it more like GT?

Sounds like you want the Forza Horizon series

The regular Forza are more serious business. Forza Horizon are open-world games where you just dont get out of the car.

Burnout Paradise for the 360 is the standard bearer for open world racing mayhem, but if you care about multiplayer Im not sure how active it still is.

Forza Horizon series is what you definitely want. Yes, you are expected to apply the brakes for sharp turns, but I can't think of a good racing game from the past decade that doesn't.

Also maybe Trackmania Turbo if you like just crazy arcade style races without any sandbox

So I remembered I was still subscribed to origin access or whatever it's called and downloaded the most recent Need for Speed game because why not?

It has terrible reviews, but it uh... doesn't seem terrible (aside from the story being cringingly bad live action videos that seem ripped straight out of the 1990s). This makes me cautiously optimistic that better reviewed/more respected games like Forza will be even better?

Yeah, that one. Maybe it's not the most recent game, but it's the most recent game available on their subscription platform.

Yeah I'm enjoying that gimmick so far. It's motivated me to learn how to "drift" which is something I've basically ignored in all other racing games I've played.

Hah, yeah, this definitely seems to be an issue. There have certainly been races where at first, everyone was kicking my ass getting way out ahead of me, and then eventually I suddenly catch them quick, as if they were just stopped and waiting for me or something.
