First week was great downloaded civ v played it no problem it's a fun Game. Week 2 I try to play fallout 3 buy it download it doesn't play I look up the problem I go through pain in the fixing it but I fix it. next trying to mod it another massive pain ass setting that up but I set up. Then I need to get fallout 3 script extender even more convoluted bullshit but then I'm finally able to play modded fallout 3 which I'm enjoying. But it makes me appreciate my console More with that I just put the game in and it plays no need to fuck with folders and files.

Sounds like you just like being lazy and want everything instantly (or you're just new and overwhelmed by the whole process idk). Setting up Fallout 3 to run on modern PCs + Mods, is as easy as changing variables in an ini file, enabling more than 2gb of ram to be used, downloading a script extender, downloading a mod manager, and downloading and installing mods.

I mean, once you learn how to do it, most games follow very similar steps, so you'll never have to go through learning the initial concept again. Also, installing FOSE is not convoluted at all. All you have to do is download it, unzip it, and drop the contents in the correct folder that the readme tells you to. That's literally it.

Fallout 3 is heinously bad on PC, like it's infamous for just not working.

For games that are at least a decade old you might be better off running a VM with a contemporary image from that time.

You played a modified version of Fallout 3 and then complain that it doesn't run as easily as the factory release. OK, opinions disregarded.

Depends on the game plus where you get it from

Also it's just 3, I think Morrowind and Oblivion and New Vegas all run fine on modern Windows

To be fair, FO3 was a buggy mess, you'll have to mod it to run at all. IIRC, at a minimum, you'll have to pull Games For Windows Live for that game.

Fallout 3 wasn't the most stable game out there when it was new, and I think it's even worse if you run a newer OS like Windows 10. I haven't booted it up in forever so I don't know how it handles the death of GFWL either.

Notice how PC gaming is cheaper after paying $800 for a GPU and $120 for RAM.

F3 has bad compatibility on windows 7-10 made worse by trying to mod it which can be incredibly overwhelming the first time you do it. basically you threw your self in the deep end with it and got more than you bargained for. it gets easier the more you get used to the operation of the pc, where games install to, what folders do what ect. its a learning process. a head ache that might take you hours to figure out tends to be fixed in 2minutes once you know what youre doing. issues tend to crop up more than consoles, but the more familiar you get with the pc the more negligible most issues get.

I thought if I started with a older game it would be easier to learn all this stuff instead I chose something hard -_-

So have you got everything set up? Did you get a mod sorter like LOOT or BOSS? Once you start getting more than a handful of mods, you'll also probably need Fallout 3 Edit to create merged patches and fix conflicts, if you haven't already.

Maybe I overstated the simpleness of modding Fallout 3. >_> There is a decent amount of stuff to read through and learn to actually get it set up with a bunch of mods, especially when you really don't have much experience doing it. If you wanted something easy, the Witcher 3 is pretty easy to mod.
