...without understanding any Japanese at all.

They think it's even stranger when I explain I dislike most English songs because the themes are often repetitive or these days amount to little more than propaganda set to a catchy beat.

How is abhor dealing with the common rabble.

Listening to Japanese music almost exclusively and disliking English music is weird. Liking some of both is cool.

I can barely understand English music a lot of the time. Makes no difference to me what language the music is in. English, Japanese, German, Russian, Korean, Chinese, French, Italian, Spanish. I've enjoyed music from all of those languages and probably more.

Same to me. If I like the music and the sound of the singer's voice, I don't really care what language is coming out of their mouth.

Sometimes it's really fun to have no clue what a song is about anyway.

Music transcends language barriers. You can still enjoy the sounds or feel the emotion in the sounds without understanding the words.

Listening to songs you aren't proficient in is totally reasonable.

But talking about your music taste is normally weird though.

It is weird, especially since the songs you're listening to are just pop anime songs rather than great works of art.

All this. I've got favorite songs in several different languages, and at least half my music collection is in Japanese. I also work in a primarily Hispanic neighborhood, and I like a lot of the jams they play.

There was a radio station in Vice City that played Spanish music, and it was one of my favorites.

I mean, it's not like your average joe listens to great works of art...

I'll bet the people TC is talking about don't have the best taste in music, either.
