Does it matter that much?

CVs a regularly more than a page, but that's kinda just an academia thing I guess.

I heard after your first job, it's supposed to be 2 pages or more.

Nope. Not before 10-15 years of experience at least, if ever.

I was told by two different job placement companies this, but honestly, it's not a hard rule, and there's tons of different opinions on this.

I mean this is definitely my perception/what I've heard in the past but I was thinking maybe things had changed since I've seen a lot more people with 2-page resumes recently for some reason

Honestly, a lot of companies are requesting more skills than can accurately be put on a single page. Couple this with the advent of electronic resume screening, I think it is only natural for you to have more than one page. My resume is 2 pages, but I also have a PhD.

Early to mid 20s it can be over 1 page. My master resume is 5 pages, most I submit are exactly 2, 3 or 4 pages. Cover letter I do 1 page only though.

Big thing on resumes is just have it easy to read in a format that makes sense. Resume readers are reading hundreds of them, you want them to be able to find information at a glance.

It doesn't matter how long the one you submit to the online system is. I've read the longer the better because it allows their applicant tracking system to detect more key words.

Then they ask for one for the actual interviews and you give them the short one.
