The Holocaust denier has no primary opponents.

A former leader in the American Nazi Party is about to get the Republican nomination for a U.S. congressional seat in Illinois.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Arthur Jones, a Holocaust denier who has repeatedly tried and failed to attain office, is the only candidate seeking the GOP nod for the seat in the heavily Democratic 3rd Congressional District.

SFX2bYP

Images on Jones campaign website showed him speaking at KKK and neo-Nazi events, giving the Nazi salute and shredding the flag of Israel. He called the Confederate flag the symbol of white pride, white resistance and white counterrevolution. Jones also told the Sun-Times that the Holocaust was an international extortion racket.

Party leaders have disowned Jones.

The Illinois Republican Party and our country have no place for Nazis like Arthur Jones, Tim Schneider, chairman of the Illinois Republican Party, told the Sun-Times. We strongly oppose his racist views and his candidacy for any public office, including the 3rd Congressional District.

Jones mocked the partys attempts to stop him.

Well, its absolutely the best opportunity in my entire political career, he told the Chicago Tribune. Every time Ive run its been against a Republican who follows this politically correct nonsense. This time they screwed up.

The primary is March 20.

Jones is the second candidate that the state GOP has tried to distance itself from in recent days. State Rep. Jeanne Ives, who is running in the primary for governor, was blasted by the party for a campaign ad that mocked transgender people and feminists, among others.

Schneider called on her to pull down the ad and immediately apologize.

I got curious about how bad this had to be to earn the GOP's disapproval.

https://www.politico.com/amp/story/2018/02/04/illinois-ives-rauner-campaign-ad-389790
The new ad mockingly thanks the governor for clearing a path in support of a series of social issues. Then it taps just about every conservative bogeyman in Illinois politics, and every lightning-rod cultural issue.

Thank you, for signing legislation that lets me use the girls bathroom, says a deep-voiced actor.

Thank you, for making all Illinois families pay for my abortions, says a woman wearing a pink hat symbolic of womens marches. An African-American woman wearing a Chicago Teachers Union shirt thanks Rauner for purportedly making the rest of the state bail out city public schools and teachers pensions.

The ad plays off an earlier Rauner ad that his campaign ran statewide for months entitled Thanks, Mike, and featured GOP governors from surrounding states thanking Rauner nemesis state House Speaker Michael Madigan for blocking Rauners reforms.

And that's a sitting legislator!

I'll ask again, what's there to spin? Republicans haven't won this district since the mid 1970s and typically Democrats run unopposed because the Illinois GOP doesn't even bother. You don't have to have authorization from the Republican party to get your name on the ballot. It's not like this guy is endorsed by the GOP or anything. He's just some loon looking for attention.

even if that's true, i would hope at the very least the GOP would condemn this individual for running under their banner w/o their consent.

that is absolutely true

probably, maybe, some states allow for parties to call some kind of conference to vote on whether or not he would be 'their' candidate after he won the primary but in general the way it works is that you just say you're part of a party and you are

As opposed to grabbed someone from their local chapter to run against him in the primaries(?). It's a lost cause anyways in terms of winning the seat, but as far as PR goes, enabling this is an odd call.
