there was a lot there to like. Cool concept. Good performances all around. A killer soundtrack. And the story was just fine. How have critics been so off lately, wtf.

I liked it, but I can see how other wouldn't like it. But I don't get some people who tried to act like it was the worst movie of the year and a crime against humanity.

The negative overreaction to Bright was only second to the insane overreactions to The Last Jedi.

I agree with the critics on this one.

I found it to be truly awful.

it was boring. they missed an opportunity to create something cool. only good scene was in the convenience store.

Hollywood is vehemently anti-Netflix. They want to maintain their racist monopoly over entertainment.

I agree it wasn't super exciting or anything. but I don't get why people were saying it was offensively bad. at worst I can see someone calling it boring or mediocre. that's basically most movies though, so why the special level of criticism for bright? I think it's a netflix thing tbh, like they've stepped on the movie industry's toes or something

- Weak/nonsensical back story/lazy world building. It's too bad, because the world could be super interesting, except they basically shrugged their shoulders and phoned it in. It's like the real world with fantasy creatures. Worst part is it's already been done better. Also apparently these fantasy creatures aren't considered magical in this setting. Okay, sure.
- Extremely heavy handed allegorical references that don't hold up in the face of the back story details. (We have solved intrahuman racism somehow, while hating Orcs for something one of them did two thousand years ago, way before colonialism or slavery. But we also still have pop culture and slang referencing comparatively modern racially charged events? What is even going on here? Orcs dressed like gangsters and that BLM reference = maximum script cringe. Dear God, spare me.).
- Really weak social commentary, for a movie explicitly about social commentary. Racial inequality in the world of Bright appears to be propagated by individual people acting shitty, and not repeated and systemic injustice the way it is in the real world. Exactly what are we commenting on here?
- Several aspects of the script appear to be at odds with itself in terms of tone or mood. Is Will Smith's character an asshole or not. Why is he down on his home life, when everything we see of it seems really functional? What's the deal with the magical waif who conveniently forgot how to speak for the first half of the movie (yeah I see them lampshading this, trying to to make it a joke, but there's a great deal of drama that didn't need to happen but did because homegirl struggles with plot-dependent aphasia. Halfway through the movie the ham-handed social allegory we've been beat with suddenly changes drama and tries to become serious urban fantasy buddy cop drama? Has that ever worked?
- You know how awkward it is learning how to swear? Bright certainly does.

It's a decent concept with mediocre-to-poor execution and decent actors.

Dont be so dense. Theres no bias. Netflix has put out critically acclaimed movies as well truly awful movies. Bright is among their worst.

A lot of stuff i read said the gritty buddy cop thing didn't mesh well with the fantasy elements.. which i think is just a silly critique. Nothing wrong with trying something new, and i thought it worked well enough anyways.
