The country has no income tax, and has become of the the world's most elite tax havens for the ultra-wealthy. The luxurious Monte Carlo casino is located here and is owned by the government. The casino generates enough money to run the country (hence no need for taxes) There are net worth requirements to become a citizen, and virtually everyone who works there commutes across the border every morning. The actual residents of Monaco are almost all millionaires and billionaires from around the world. The country is a fortress of wealth, and has the largest per-capita police force in the world. This video really doesn't do the country justice. I visited while studying abroad in France a few years back. Everything was spotless, and parts of the city had sidewalks made of marble. Almost all cars were sports cars (you would notice when a car WASN'T an ultra-luxury vehicle). When I had dinner at one of the restaurants, a single bottle of water was $17. There were no taxis to take me back to France--only limousines. They had a team of staff (in tuxedos) standing at attention in the back just looking to see if anyone's glasses were below half full (like in Downton Abbey). The restaurant also had a retractable roof, which they opened up once the stars were visible.
