As far as live action goes, Ledger. Everything else goes Luke Skywalker himself.

Ledger was the best, but Hamill's was the most memorable to me given the shear volume of material he's been in during my childhood, teenage years, and adulthood as well and how damn good he was throughout.

Unpopular opinion time: Leto was an amazing Joker, up there with Ledger and Nicholson. He just didn't get enough screen time to leave his mark.

I never got the appeal of Hamill's Joker. Romero's is funnier. Ledger and Nicholson's are scarier. He's just kinda stuck in the middle where he's neither fish nor fowl.

Granted, I haven't seen seen the animated movies, but I doubt it would elevate him that much in my mind if I had.

To me, that is the appeal. I feel like Hamill is the perfect balance between grim dark and camp.

I can't believe Leto got the 'Mad Love' plot but there still wasn't anything memorable about him.

Overall I vote Hamill. But the interrogation scene in The Dark Knight is probably my favorite Joker moment ever. Ledger absolutely nails it.

I find it odd you can comment on a performance without actually seeing it for yourself.

Hamill. Ledger was just one movie and imo was a different type of Joker. Hamill's Joker is how I picture comic Joker, much like Kevin Conroy is comic Batman.

It's also possible to take something for granted. I never really thought about Hamill's Joker laugh until someone mentioned how he nailed it.

Yes, but I saw four seasons of Mark Hamill's Joker in Batman, The Animated Series. I don't think that cutting somebody's nose or ear off or saying a curse word in an unfiltered animated movie is going to reshape my perception of a character that I've known for years and years.

I'd put Romero over Nicholson, the script really took a lot away from the 1980s batman movie version, even though he killed that role

I don't think this is inherently a bad opinion. If given more of a presence he would actually have had some potential, but his off-camera antics were beyond stupid and what scenes made it in were underwhelming compared to the hype.

I think it's the opposite. He gave a great performance and people are quick to assume the praise is because he died.

Seriously if I read a quote of his I can remember exactly how he said it.

The Joker: You wanna know how I got these scars? My father, was a drinker, and a fiend. And one night, he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn't like that. Not. One. Bit. So, me watching, he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it. He turns to me and says, "Why so serious?" Comes at me with the knife. "WHY SO SERIOUS?" He sticks the blade in my mouth... "Let's put a smile on that face." And...

[glancing at thug]

The Joker: Why so serious?

Oh, you. You just couldn't let me go, could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You truly are incorruptible, aren't you? You won't kill me out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness. And I won't kill you because you're just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever.

So damn good.
