it's hopefully still many many years off. he's not very old. but I think about it. now that I live in my own apartment, it's gonna be very hard, when the end is near. and I will either have to go to the vet at some point or just find him dead one day in my apartment. and that 2nd one would probably scar me for life. I might have to move back in with my parents for a time when I know the end is near. even though it might be rough on him, who will probably be more comfortable in the home he knows. there are just so many things to think about. I don't think I can handle it. I love him but sometimes I wish I didn't get him because I think in the end it's gonna torment me. I don't do well with death.

I feel you. Cats dying bothers me more than any other creature dying. If this would be the first time you've had a cat die, that makes it even harder.

I've had a lot of cats die in my life. It never gets easier. I also experience the fear of finding a cat dead one morning. Eventually it will almost certainly happen. I think the pain is worth the love, but it really sucks. I've been completely devastated by losing a cat that I felt I couldn't live without at the time. You'll definitely want the support of people who care about you when it happens. --- `Twas brillig, and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe; All mimsy were the borogoves, and the mome raths outgrabe. ... When my cat bubbles died it absolutely killed me. I had him my whole life, he was my brother and my best friend. I still think about him every day and dream about him on a regular basis.

All I can say is enjoy the time you have with your cat. Play with them, cuddle them, love them. I spent his last week crying and hugging him as he got weaker and weaker. When he finally passed, I bawled my eyes out in the room with him, then I let the vet take him (to cremate him) and I havent cried again since then. His ashes are on the mantle above the fire place. ... Copied to Clipboard!

He was three or four years older than me when he died at seventeen. He had a stroke and didn't even seem to know who we were at the end. It took years and years until I could think about him without crying. Last year whe I woke up one of my cats had gone downhill so fast I knew that was going to be his last day alive. and I am still quite sad about it. He was buried in a beautiful meadow and this year I'm planting wildflowers along his grave markers.

The death of a companion is difficult. Even if you experience it a dozen times it still hurts each time. That's the hard part of life. The bitter end comes after all the good stuff. There's no way around it. Cherish your memories and open your home to saving a new cat. :) --- Never write off the Doctor! ... Copied to Clipboard!

He was buried in a beautiful meadow and this year I'm planting wildflowers along his grave markers. I want to do that when I have more space. Just keep taking in senior animals. They have a hard time being adopted, but they still need a home and love. Most of the healthy senior cats I see that end up in shelters are due to dead owners :( The sick ones are cats people abandon when they don't want to deal with the vet or euthanasia themselves --- Never write off the Doctor! ... I sometimes think about adopting elderly cats, but I'm not sure I'm at a point where I could deal with losing cats just as the relationship got really close. Bad enough when I lost my four year old cat. I have adopted cats who were a few years old though!

I always get sad at the thought of what will happen to whatever cats we have at the time when we die. They'd probably go to the no kill shelter I adopted most of them from, but it would break their little hearts. --- `Twas brillig, and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe; All mimsy were the borogoves, and the mome raths outgrabe. ... Bad enough when I lost my four year old cat. I have adopted cats who were a few years old though! when I adopted Nosy he was aged at 5 years. I had him just over 2 years before the health issues started and just over 3 before he passed. He was my BFF. We slept together and when we did that he would curl up in my arm and put is paw in my hand. He followed me all the places. We could talk just by blinking and stretching. I could seriously get that cat purring, drooling, and shuddering from across a room just with body language. He was so special and I'll never meet a cat like him again, but I'm so happy that he got a nice few years with me where he was loved and spoiled. Even with all the heartache and debt it was worth it. He had a home and he was loved, and his memory lives on with me --- Never write off the Doctor! ... Copied to Clipboard!

Death is something that nothing can escape. Animals are no different. All you can really do is enjoy the very limited time you have with the people/pets you have. I had my cat for 15+ years before we had to put him down. I accepted his journey had come to a end so when the time came it was more easy to let him go. I've certainly had to say goodbye to worse things than a pet despite him being like one of the family.

Aww Nosy definitely sounds like a special boy.

My adult cats were ??? in age. One was estimated to be four because she was estimated to be two when she came to the shelter as a single mama. One was supposed to be about five years old after she spent four years in the shelter, but I suspect she may be older. And my last adult cat buddy was a stray, and the vet and I just guessed he was like four. --- `Twas brillig, and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe; All mimsy were the borogoves, and the mome raths outgrabe. ... When I was around 10 or so I got a kitten(a bombay) and she eventually died of old age when I was in my 20's. Right before she died she kept going into the cupboard under the bathroom sink, a place she never went before. She fell asleep and thankfully died peacefully. She had a lot of nicknames but I usually called her Scurvy, lol.

Hopefully bury it, because otherwise it starts to smell. Otherwise yeah, cat deaths are harder than dog deaths. It's always a traumatic experience. Granted, finding *any* pet dead is pretty awful and few things are worse than having the last memory of somebody be seeing their body.
