It's a pain in the ass, there are so many things to consider and then the seller has probably done a lot of small shit to make it look nice but then you move in and stuff starts falling apart and you need to pay to fix it and shit.

Are home inspections not required before closing where you are?

We fell in love with a house, put in an offer, then the inspection showed a lot of shit wrong with it (mostly minor, but the three big things turned us away: foundation was bad, HVAC system was 40 years old AND didn't work, and plumbing was fucked) so we walked.

Yes home inspections are required but they can only catch so much.

It's a special kinda sinking feeling when you've visited the house you are buying three times, and after closing you're going to move in and the front screen door pops off one of the hinges and the handle falls off >_>.

In general I wish we had purchased one of the other houses we looked at... but oh well. This is an OK house it's just very bland and doesn't have any character to it.

Indeed.

Purchased a couple investment properties last year, it's so much easier when you have a foot through the door.

I was very lucky with my first major job, made decent amount and saved almost 90% including tips, I cannot emphasise how much it helped doing this while still young.

I'm kinda lucky right now. My realtor will pay to break my current lease. The house builder will pay the closing costs and with the va home loan i don't have to put a down payment

Only problem is I just moved halfway across the country for a police job so that cost a ton of money. And I've barely got like my 3rd paycheck so I'm playing catch up.

Might sell my Xbox one x and switch to pay for the escrow so I don't have to pay for with money in my.bank account lol

Well, in California buying a house in the suburbs can easily cost between $500,000-$1,000,000...
If you moved out of state, and somewhere in the mid east like Kentucky...
You probably be able to find houses for around $100k~$200k

Tell me about it, I live in a high cost area. We wouldnt have been able to buy a house if it werent for my aunt loaning us a substantial amount of money to help pay for the down payment. But now we pay both mortgage and the loan back. Were ok in that we have no CC debt but we also arent saving much money and have to tighten the belt on spending.

I just moved out of my parents' place for good into an apartment. I make enough that I could pay a mortgage on a decent house, but there are so many goddamn additional fees that I don't know when I'm gonna be able to buy one.

Shit sucks. Apartment living isn't for SuperGamer.

That sucks. My job pays me very little and I might have more saved up than you guys atm. Of course, I also don't have a down payment on a house, so

You probably do. Between the house, loan and other bills, we have almost nothing left to save. But we do still have an emergency fund. It just doesnt move lol.

Oh well. Weve got 2 more years to go on the loan. Then well be pretty set.

Yeah it's easily the biggest purchase you'll make in your life.

The trick is not living in an expensive apartment so you can actually save money. People shit on living with your parents for awhile but I moved back after college until 24 (still paid my parents to live there of course) and it made a world of difference. Saved so much, then moved to an apartment after having an actual savings point, then the house purchase wasn't too bad. My wife did the same thing so down payment wasn't a problem.

This would have been my ideal scenario, but the job I ended up getting was an 80-mile drive one-way from my parents place. I did it for almost two months, but it was hell.

You couldnt pay me to live with my parents. They were controlling af. But we did move in to a small 1 bedroom apartment and stayed there for 5 years while we saved for a house. Every time we were tempted to upgrade to a bigger apartment, we kept telling ourselves that was several hundreds a month we could put away. We honestly came close to signing a couple. We always walked away and Im glad we held out.

I stay under the radar. Id be such an easy target for robbery but I only let people I know and trust in my house (some cousins I don't even like to know what I have). If I threw parties and shit I can guarantee Id of been hit at least once. Im a scrawny fuck that walks around alone at all times of night so it must not be too bad around here tho.

You can live in Omaha, Nebraska and have the big city feel with the small town costs.

My house is a 3 bed/3 bath with a two car attached garage, mere minutes away from pretty much everything. 1800 square feet and we got it for $139k. Mortgage is $980/month including taxes, insurance, and PMI.

Very little wrong with it. Water heater and air conditioner are both old as fuck (19 and 28 years old, respectively) but that's it.

Property taxes suck though. Think ours are like $2700 a year now. Could have bought a similar house 15 minutes away in Iowa and pay next to nothing in taxes but then I'd live in Iowa. Fuck Iowa.

It's been worth it for me. I bought a project house and went way below my budget so I could afford materials and work on it. Its still expensive but I'm ok with it.

Been having fun making it my own. Finished the pc room a few weekends ago, 3 monitors on the wall, gave the room it's own circuit, custom lighting and desk, no wires showing. Living room is next up and I'm having more fun with design than I thought I would.

Last year I tried buying a house.

Problem was that the folks loaning the money wanted a house safety inspection.

That costed me like $600.

It was concluded that I needed to do like $6000 in maintenance before I could get the loan, so I just dropped the idea.

The house itself I wasn't really interested in.

I just wanted the land.
