Tab 3?? That's fairly old, for an Android Tablet. Time for a refresh?

No I'm on my phone right now. I pulled out the Tablet because I renewed my library card after like 15 years and I was going to take advantage of the ebooks they offer but I can barely get this thing to turn on and run properly.

It's barely 4 years old and if this is what happens with Android tablets after that length of time I may not want to go with one >_>

Yeah, that's old. And no, you shouldn't go with Android for Tablets. You could pick up an iPad Mini 2 that would blow that tablet out the water in terms of performance, and they came out the same year.

I'm guessing the fact that it's Samsung specifically is a factor too. Touchwizz is a bloated piece of shit.

Couple ideas that might help:
Uninstall/deactivate all the bad apps it has
Find lightweight alternative apps. F-droid is a great alternate appstore which is mainly used because everything on it is FOSS, but it's usually the case that the apps on it are extremely light on resources.

I don't know how it works on tablets but you might be able to go further and just replace the Android ROM entirely with something lighter overall. Not sure though.

I've been looking at iPads but I don't understand why the Mini 2 is $100 more than the 2017 iPad >_> damn apple

If you can buy newer, that's even better. I was just giving an example.

Also, where are you buying from with prices like that?

Yeah... I'm into that.

Wtf, where

I've seen the 2017 iPad for as low as $250

But yeah, iPads overall have no competition

It seemed like Google actually put effort for tablets for the nexus 7/10 which were only okay tablets, still inferior to ipads. But since then, it seemed like they gave up and stopped giving a shit and Android tablets have fallen way behind.

The Nexus 9 was good. But yes, they gave up after that.

Samsung does still put in effort, but at the prices of their best units, you can get an iPad, and it will last longer.

Lmao whoops I was thinking of the Mini 4 >_> but point stands

Mini 4 128 GB is $550 in Canada while the 2017 iPad is $450.

But I just realized that's only for 32 GB, 128 GB is $580.

$30 price difference is kinda "wtf" but I think the screen on the 2017 iPad is way shittier than old versions. Apple cut some corners to keep the price down.

I do this with my Surface 2 every year. I've had it over 4 years now. Still works fairly well. Posting on it now.

I put an Asus Zenpad on hold at Best Buy to check it in the morning. It's only $160 but at least it runs Android 6.0!

That would imply either Google or Samsung provide updates for their hardware for more than 30 seconds after you've paid for it

This is where custom ROMs like Lineage OS come in.

Basically what Apple pretends they're doing, but actually doing it.

lol forreal, this thing launched in July 2013 with Jelly bean 4.1.2 and officially stopped being supported with Kit Kat 4.4.2 in December 2013. That's hilariously awful.

Obviously that's going to run like shit if I attempt to install it right?

Also mine isn't the LTE version, so would it even work anyways?

Probably not

I have Android 6 on a phone designed for 4.0 and it feels like running Vista on 512MB, switching apps takes forever, it needs rebooting if I leave the camera flash on too long, etc. It's okay if you learn to tune out that stuff but still a downgrade

1GB RAM is iffy but Lineage is really light on its own. Ditch gapps and it'll probably idle at about half a gig, maybe less. Can't speak to that processor though.
