It's a business model people have been asking for, but really only Nintendo has the library to pull it off. And they'd fuck it up by only having a handful of obscure games available with maybe a rotating selection of one or two mid-tier games.
I'm not actually reading the article though because fuck Phil Spencer.

Eh? The Xbox One can play three generations of console games. The Xbox Game Pass already has a pretty good library and it's just gonna keep growing.

Stuff like this gives Microsoft more incentive to make a new and diverse IP's.

It's no longer about making sure an individual game is a success. It's about adding value to an entire service. This works out well for Netflix and I hope Microsoft follows their lead.

A lot of games are too. Single player games under 10 hours are struggling in sales a bit and this model should help.

That's why they really need a diverse range of titles. Another advantage is that you don't need to invest $60 to take a chance on a multiplayer game. Sea of Thieves will benefit a lot from this I think.

If you have a bunch of friends subscribed to this thing you'll have several games you can all just play whenever you want together. You don't need to rely on everyone buying the same games.

The way I did it or how he did

Some games you want to play years after last playing them and you don't want to have a membership to do so.

Game Pass is great because it lets me blitz though games I would've normally neglected either due to price or availability

If it had a Netflix style subscription model it probably would have sold more yeah. But it didn't. I don't think Nintendo would do anything like this for their modern games anyway.

For now this is Microsoft's for the taking.

The problem with downloading games with the crappy ISPs and crappy infrastructure is slow speeds and data caps.

I have a MONTHLY cap of 60GB.

Going digital is entirely off the table. My situation is far from a fringe case. And the thing is, ISPs have pushed for a long time to screw more people over on these fronts. What ISPs want to do and are doing is not only entirely at odds with the needs and well-being of consumers, but also entirely counter to things like this that the gaming industry wants.

But where Xbox Game Pass titles are downloaded into your library, Sony's service streams them over the internet to your console.

This is a huge selling point. Playstation Now requires a robust upload and download stream to play it effectively, meaning that if you're not in a major metro area with a good internet infrastructure, you can't use the service. Xbox Game Pass allowing you to download the games at your leisure is huge.

Even without a good internet connection, there's things like DLC compatibility and local multiplayer that makes Game Pass an overall much better deal than PS Now will ever be.

What the fuck

Where do you live? I was bitching about my 1TB data limit last month.

Anyway, I'm probably going to subscribe to this shortly. I'm waiting a bit though to see if Microsoft comes out with a new level of Xbox Live that includes Game Pass. Like Xbox Platinum for like $130 a year or something like that. Currently it's $180 for both services for a year, which is still an incredible value considering the free games each month and the huge library GP has. I just hate having so many damn bills and turning two into one would be nice.

I live somewhere the ISP-monopoly arbitrarily decided they'll never service. Living in the US, basically if you're not in a city you might just be fucked.

But hey, the 60 GB cap is pretty shitty, but on the plus side, it is also really slow, incredibly unreliable, online multiplayer-breaking high ping... But at least it only costs 120+ dollars a month, so eh, you get what you pay for.
