RBY are the best for casual play since you can start up a playthrough any-time and not be bothered by lengthy tutorials or early-game busy-work. But they work best if you have an imagination to fill in the blanks because there's so much nothing in them. Also, the entire game slows to a crawl after you unlock Cycling Road. And end-game is a painful grind.

Tbh problems like "inventory space" and "changing boxes" isn't really a big deal. It's easily mitigated by simply paying attention to the game. Though I also benefit from only catching Pokemon I like/intend to use for that run. >_>

Gen 1 is literally a broken game. It had a ton of bugs and a lot of the moves didn't work the way they should. Not to mention some types for screwed having no STAB moves to use.

They clearly are.

Don't get me wrong, some of the glitches are fun to use, like the Mew glitch, but most of them are shit. Gen 2 gets rid of most of the good ones anyway.

Then of course you have the lack of moves, Pokemon, features, etc., the shit graphics, the terrible AI, and so on.

The rivals and Team Rocket are good, as well as the more open-ended world, but they don't negate the issues and lack of content / features.

I loved the games back in the day, but they've definitely been improved on.

There is way too much dialogue in recent games. I just want to fight and catch stuff. It shouldn't take over an hour before I can catch my first Pokemon.

I still enjoy the games, but I'm only halfway through ultra sun and that was out in November. I'm just not drawn in like i was in earlier gens. And It isn't simply a matter of outgrowing it.

Y'know they complain about it because there's usually too much hate for the newer games and Pokemon right?
Not that I'm agreeing with anyone that says the first two Gens are bad, just that they have their own flaws, so maybe you can give the newer games some slack and realize nothing has gotten worse about Pokemon.
Actually, I will say that the maps are too linear and there's too much emphasis on a disruptive story with the last few games, and this is coming from someone who's favorite games were BW/2(and before you ask, yes I did grow up with the originals).

I liked Pearl the best I think, the battle tower in that one was my favorite. Took forever to get my 107 streak in that shit.
