A 12 Angry Men-style movie except with the fucking Marvel Illuminati. No overblown CGI, no fancy stuntwork, just a group of the most powerful men in the world discussing political/social issues with raising tension as their ideals come into conflict with each other.

Keep it fairly low-budget and specifically advertise it as a superhero movie that isn't action-heavy, and with the right director, writers and vision I think you've got something really good.

The Marvel illuminati is just Stan Lee.

No it's Black Panther, Iron Man, Submariner, Professor X, Beast, Mr Fantastic, Dr Strange, and Captain America.

I feel like cap is the odd man out there. He doesn't feel like he belongs in that group

This is actually pretty lit. Would probably work best as a Netflix original. I'd watch it

He does because he's Captain America. He's pretty much there to try to keep the morality in check.

Eh, he's kind of the every man there to balance out all of the billionaires, world leaders, and super geniuses.

EDIT: Also the other post forgot Black Bolt.

true

but who wants to watch movie that's just a bunch of guys in tights talking

Honestly, I thought some of the most interesting parts of Civil War was Cap and Tony arguing over the Accords.

You're one of those people that like the prequels because you learn about the intricacies of the universe with the disputes and the trade federation.

The problem is that there wasn't really any nuance to it. The Separatists were clearly shown to be the bad guys, while the Jedi and the Republic were the good guys.

The problem is the audience

The majority of marvel fans want to see action, they dont care for politics. The movie itself will tank

That's one issue I could see happening, but I think they'd have to be gradually eased into the idea of a superhero movie that's light on action and then it could work.

The movie would also need to be fairly grounded. You can't have a movie that's one long social/political debate where the issues can only exist in superhero fantasy land. There needs to be something there that can relate back to the real world, even if it's only expressed through allegory.

I also think the conflict between Black Panther and Namor should provide for the most dramatic/tense moments. They're by far the members of the Illuminati with the most vitriol for each other, and the group should be constantly trying to keep them from ripping out each others' throats.

And since Marvel now has the rights for the Fantastic Four, I think it'd be fairly interesting to have Dr. Doom be a member of the MCU's version of the Illuminati alongside Reed, where the two are forced to, for just once, occupy the same space without trying to kill each other. Perhaps Iron-Man brings Dr. Doom along for political insight and most of the group absolutely hates the idea, especially Reed.

People have action expectations of superhero movies. A group of people talking superhero politics can be had here. Who would pay for that?

This is completely missing the point of superheroes as a concept.

Wouldn't work as an MCU film, they don't allow tension in their movies. Iron Man and Beast would be having a great philosophical argument, then Dr. Strange would come in with a shitty one liner and the scene would be ruined.

lol what?

The literal reason Stan Lee created Spider-Man was to make him a more relatable character.
