I haven't been paying super close attention but just from some brief googling and seeing how conservative cemen are messaging around this, seems like the whole "democrats like illegals more than the military" is the thing Republicans intend to say

Most people do want 'amnesty' for DACA recipients, though, just not as part of a shutdown so do they risk painting themselves into a corner down the road by emboldening the wing of their party that doesn't want DACA, shutdown or not?

That's what I'm trying to say. Like, the person ITT said " how can most people favor amnesty if so many voted for trump" but that's because most people don't consider dreamers 'illegals' which is a pejorative term despite what some might want you to think

This messaging is trying to use the general distaste people have for 'illegals' to apply to dreamers specifically, towards whom most people have less animus which to me seems problematic going forward

Tbh it seems like they're trying a few things out.

They started out with "Dems are just being obstructionist"

Then they went to "Dems care more about DACA than sick children"

Then after they realized everyone knew they were the ones who let CHIP expire in the first place they've shifted over to "Dems like illegals more than the military"

Tbh it doesn't seem like any strategy has been particularly effective

Wonder what they'll switch to now that it's become apparent that Dems tried to fund the military during the shutdown but were blocked by McConnell

And this happens a lot from what I've seen. And it's going to work for the Republicans I think. When it comes time to do something for the Dreamers, the narrative will change and "illegals" won't be the word they use anymore.

Nowhere near half the country voted for Trump. He got a little over 62,000,000 votes while the US has a population of over 320,000,000. That's less than 1/4 of the population.

thats not entirely true now. they tried yesterday to pass a CR for military pay and McCuckell shot it down

If you've been here illegally for over 30 years, your an illegal immigrant, regardless of when you got here.
