Trump just made history, many ways. First president to preside over a govt shutdown while his party controls the House, Senate and White House AND first president to preside over a shutdown on the first anniversary of his inauguration AND earliest shutdown ever in a presidency.

You do realize that a spending bill requires 60 votes and it was the democrats that weren't willing to vote on one out of spite for Republicans.

I mean, should they just never try and contest anything republicans want? They need to try and force some compromise afterall.

I dunno much about the current situation mind, but from an outsider's perspective, it seems both sides are at fault to a degree.

It's the democrats that were trying to blackmail the republicans into voting for a bill that has nothing to do with the budget, So yes, it is the democrats fault that they shutdown the government over nobody wanting to pass an amnesty bill that only serves to gather permanent votes for democrats and devaluing the men and women that actually followed the law.

I'm not sure what you're after here. Are you saying that people are blaming the republicans without thinking about it? Because it seems the alternative you want is that people blame the minority party without thinking about it, which doesn't sound better, but it does sound like it might currently be advantageous to your position.

The Dems want CHIP and DACA in the budget

Trump and the GOP deliberately scuttled both of these months ago

They now included CHIP in a bill but are refusing to put DACA in a bill

The Dems and a few Repubs do not want to vote for a bill with the wall in it. The wall is wasteful, pointless, and in general unpopular with the public

DACA, meanwhile is a policy the Democratic base likes, and is in general, popular with the rest of the country. Why is it on the Democrats to abandon that in favor of giving Trump everything he wants?

There was a bipartisan agreement containing compromises on the policies listed. Trump for some reason got angry and threw a tantrum in the meeting. This is where "shithole" comes from. He now refused to sign the bill.

How is any of this the Dems fault? Is it their job to abandon their policies in favor of giving Trump everything he wants?

That's not how government works. Whether you like it or not the 49 Dem senators and miscellaneous number of Dem congressmen represent people too.

Oh and also the GOP only had like 46 votes from their own party for their spending bill last night.

It's crazy how easily you'll deflect to "but republicans" as the democrats want laws passed to protect criminals or they'll hurt civilians.
