I really wish I would have dropped out grade 10 and gotten a trade as an apprentice.

Could've been making $80 an hour right now as a qualified sparky or plumber.

Maybe you should just finish high school.
If you're lying to your dad for a year and a half he is going to find out eventually.

Best of luck Harpie :D based on what you've posted on here it is by far the best option for you. It's not worth living with an abusive alcoholic parent for an extended amount of time just so some pretentious assholes don't look "down on" you for not having a real HS diploma, which after college will be a moot point anyway. How often do you see people follow up "so what did you get your college degree in?" With "but did you graduated HS?" ?

Thank you ^^
I agree haha. It's worth the added difficulty to get out with months and not years. I don't think I'll regret it

Aeriis posted...
I have barely any life experience but there's no way I would stay in HS until I was 19/20. I feel like that's a nightmare that I would have sometimes... being in HS while all your friends moved on.

I'd get the GED.

Same. I couldn't do it. It's not only embarassing it's demoralizing

DocileOrangeCup posted...
Also Harpie you should move to California and we can rent a cabin together

Thanks cornman

I would but then I couldn't apply for any colleges without paying out of state tuition, which is super expensive. Why don't you come to Seattle? :p

Just steal your dad's alcohol. It'll help you get through high school and keep him from drinking it.

You can go to a 2 year college, do well, then finish your last 2 years in a 4 year university. Really wish I knew that when I was 16.

Oh that's not bad at all! I don't even think I'll be able to move out that quick lol

Minimum wage here is finally $15 so we'd be able to afford a cheap two bedroom for $1200. Also no state income tax

I live in an abusive household. I also missed a year and a half of high school because of severe anxiety. I'm 18, but at this point I won't be graduating HS until summer 2019

This is important because I can't work more than 15 hours a week due to me being in HS. If I get my GED, I can work more hours and be able to afford rent and live on my own

I mean... I was gonna say this is a terrible idea, but when you put it that way... I get it.

Getting a GED is a bad option if you have the option of going to high school.

Employers aren't legally supposed to discriminate against people with GEDs, but they will anyway and just call it a different name. Even though a GED is a diploma equivalent, it's still considered the weaker of the two options
