Be it Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, etc.

When looking of input on whether something is good or bad, you trust the opinion of random strangers on the internet, or do you trust the opinion of random strangers on the internet who write for some blog/column about telling people what is good and bad?

I pay more attention to critics. Audience reviewers like to review bomb, sometimes for no other reason than that the movie/game/etc has too many high score reviews.

depends on the publisher. i will never trust a critic score for an EA game but i will trust the audience.

on the other hand, games like Undertale get thrashed by the audience here on gamefaqs for non reasons like "the fanbase is bad" despite the game itself being amazing, so in those cases the critics are more reliable

I trust the audience score the most.

The only time review bombing ever impacted anything significant was taking down The Godfather by a few notches on IMDB's ranking.

When it comes to video games, most of the time the review bombing ends up being warranted such as Paid Skyrim Mods or when Payday 2 added P2W shit.

I mean, yeah, I agree critics scored it a bit high, and i have a lot of issues with the film. But even then, the audience score was unwarranted.

Critic reviews, always. Audience reviews often seem baseless with comments left attached to their review containing, "I've never played this game/watched this movie, but I don't like it anyway so 0/10".

I just read opinions. Scores only serve to pique my interest, not give me expectations. If I see a thousand angry Star Wars fans ranting about how The Last Jedi was bad because Snoke died/Luke didn't get a mega awesome lightsaber fight then that tells me a lot more about whether I'll enjoy the movie or not.

Theres bias in both, i think you need to just weigh the two together. Fanboys love every game that comes out no matter what and trolls will stomp without even playing a game. Most critics dont even finish a game by the time of review or speed through or worse are paid off or given the game for free, etc. weigh the two IMO, recommendation of a friend or colleague outweighs both in my mind

Audience score has been most reflective far too many times for me to trust critics.

There's been stuff hyped or bashed by critics but the actual experience was the complete opposite and that's been reflected in the audience score the best.

If it's really good or bad, both scores are usually very close.

Critical reviews give details audience reviews often don't as to why they feel the way they do about a particular piece of media. If something is picked up on by a couple critical reviews then it's probably an actual thing and not just something imagined.

I count youtube reviewers and like Angryjoe and such as critics, so i choose them and its not even close. Audience can be like playing the game for 2 hours and then get hyped and give it 10/10 without writing coherent review.

Critics, also can have their faults, but at least i know they're made by adults and not some 10 year old fanboys.

tbh i'd rather invest my time in something if it interests me, why does it matter what anyone else thinks?

that being said i'd read audience comments on something over critics; critics are more often than not too happy to make something that has a big name out to be more than a positive experience.

Its easy to buy off a critic. Or a critic may have irrational political views that a film is promoting. Or the critic may have a conflict of interest in a film doing well.

It depends on the movie.
If I'm reading the critic reviews and it's pretty clear they have a negative bias because a film isn't politically correct, then I ignore that and read the audience reviews.
However, if it's pretty clear the audience reviews seem bias as well, I'll go back to the critic reviews.
However, in the end, I try to read BOTH critic and audience reviews, but I try to follow the reviews which appear to be informative and not bias.

I don't like Critics. They bash a lot of great films such as Rocky Balboa, but then talk about how great a movie like Star Wars Episode 8 is. It's like they don't like movies that stay on the original story and want something new that hasn't been seen before, even if it really sucks.
