Be it Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, etc.

When looking of input on whether something is good or bad, you trust the opinion of random strangers on the internet, or do you trust the opinion of random strangers on the internet who write for some blog/column about telling people what is good and bad?
Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.

I pay more attention to critics. Audience reviewers like to review bomb, sometimes for no other reason than that the movie/game/etc has too many high score reviews.
Talent hits a target no one else can hit. Genius hits a target no one else can see.
- Arthur Schopenhauer.
critic score almost 100% of the time as neckbeards will overwhelmingly skew the audience vote in almost any movie
depends on the publisher. i will never trust a critic score for an EA game but i will trust the audience.

on the other hand, games like Undertale get thrashed by the audience here on gamefaqs for non reasons like "the fanbase is bad" despite the game itself being amazing, so in those cases the critics are more reliable
Whichever one matches my preselected opinion more.

I trust the audience score the most.

The only time review bombing ever impacted anything significant was taking down The Godfather by a few notches on IMDB's ranking.

When it comes to video games, most of the time the review bombing ends up being warranted such as Paid Skyrim Mods or when Payday 2 added P2W shit.
Critic reviews

Audience reviews typically aren't very good

Considering Last Jedi got like 93% critic and 50% audience. And I didn't like it, I think audience is usually right >_>
Critic reviews lost credibility with me when IGN gave ORAS a 7.8 out of 10.
Neither i like to make up my own mind on things
Neither. Critics are corporate shills and audience dont have the ability to fairly or intelligently rate anything
Quit Crying
generally critic reviews, although I trust my rym friends' ratings more. Audience ratings at sites like imdb are worthless

I mean, yeah, I agree critics scored it a bit high, and i have a lot of issues with the film. But even then, the audience score was unwarranted.

... I mean, I'm sorry, but TLJ is scientifically better than AotC. It's, like, not even close
There's somethin' strange on the message board.

I don't pay attention to either to be honest

Critic reviews, always. Audience reviews often seem baseless with comments left attached to their review containing, "I've never played this game/watched this movie, but I don't like it anyway so 0/10".
N/A
I just read opinions. Scores only serve to pique my interest, not give me expectations. If I see a thousand angry Star Wars fans ranting about how The Last Jedi was bad because Snoke died/Luke didn't get a mega awesome lightsaber fight then that tells me a lot more about whether I'll enjoy the movie or not.
Everything has an end, except for the sausage. It has two.
Theres bias in both, i think you need to just weigh the two together. Fanboys love every game that comes out no matter what and trolls will stomp without even playing a game. Most critics dont even finish a game by the time of review or speed through or worse are paid off or given the game for free, etc. weigh the two IMO, recommendation of a friend or colleague outweighs both in my mind
Audience score has been most reflective far too many times for me to trust critics.

There's been stuff hyped or bashed by critics but the actual experience was the complete opposite and that's been reflected in the audience score the best.

If it's really good or bad, both scores are usually very close.

Punisher got like a 54 from Critics and a 83 from Users.

I can't profess to understand God's plan, Christ promised the resurrection of the dead. I just thought he had something a little different in mind.
I don't really worry about either. I try to base it on what I think I'd like. I've only been burned that way a few times.

Movies:

- Crossover

Two of the worst movies I've ever seen. Other than that, I've generally liked the movies I've seen.

Considering that Audience scores are way too easily bombable

I'll go with the critic score

but usually idgaf about either

but it's really telling to me when a film has a similar audience and critic score

that usually just means an all around awful movie

Critic score upon release:8-9/10. Audience score:4-5/10. Within 8 months said media becomes the whipping boy for every critic to chortle over how weak the entry was, as though they themselves didn't rate it the second coming. Source: every single AAA game release and big budget movie.

I don't necessarily doubt this, but do you have any nice examples?

Yeah I can't say either one. Was never big on followin' critics'n a lotta time the audience score ends up bein' littered with 1s'n 10s

With both movies and games, I usually like the ones that critics give low scores and hate the ones they give high on. So technically I listen more to critics reviews, but I usually go the opposite of what they say.

Don't even look at scores, much less care about them. If I think I'll like something, I'll watch it/try it, and then form my own opinion.
I mean, most if the time they are roughly similar, so there's no reason to adjudicate. In the case of a clear discrepancy between them, I usually assume the score that is most average to be more accurate. It's very rare that both are extreme in opposite directions.

For Games, typically critics.

Other way around, for me (granted, I've seen a couple movies where the critic score was way too high/low, but audience scores for movies aren't that reliable at all imho).
Audience.

Don't really care about both of them. In the end, my own judgement matters the most.

Depends on the medium. When it comes to movies and TV the audience. Video games the critics.
You look EXTREMELY immature when you announce that you're about to ignore someone. No one cares, including the person about to be ignored. Just FYI.
Critical reviews give details audience reviews often don't as to why they feel the way they do about a particular piece of media. If something is picked up on by a couple critical reviews then it's probably an actual thing and not just something imagined.
Whatever happened to standards? Whatever happened to bare minimums?

Critics mostly. I could give a damn that fat Star Wars fanboys hated TLJ.
I count youtube reviewers and like Angryjoe and such as critics, so i choose them and its not even close. Audience can be like playing the game for 2 hours and then get hyped and give it 10/10 without writing coherent review.

Critics, also can have their faults, but at least i know they're made by adults and not some 10 year old fanboys.

tbh i'd rather invest my time in something if it interests me, why does it matter what anyone else thinks?

that being said i'd read audience comments on something over critics; critics are more often than not too happy to make something that has a big name out to be more than a positive experience.

with video games i dont even look at critic scores anymore, audience only

i have 0 trust in critics of vgs, seems like they're mostly advertising material for big games
And when the hourglass has run out, eternity asks you about only one thing: whether you have lived in despair or not.
First look at critics, then look at audience. If something's off I'll do research if I feel like it.

Though generally I trust audience more, seeing how Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky got a score in the 50s.

Audience.

Its easy to buy off a critic. Or a critic may have irrational political views that a film is promoting. Or the critic may have a conflict of interest in a film doing well.

It depends on the movie.
If I'm reading the critic reviews and it's pretty clear they have a negative bias because a film isn't politically correct, then I ignore that and read the audience reviews.
However, if it's pretty clear the audience reviews seem bias as well, I'll go back to the critic reviews.
However, in the end, I try to read BOTH critic and audience reviews, but I try to follow the reviews which appear to be informative and not bias.
I don't like Critics. They bash a lot of great films such as Rocky Balboa, but then talk about how great a movie like Star Wars Episode 8 is. It's like they don't like movies that stay on the original story and want something new that hasn't been seen before, even if it really sucks.
