When warnings say "this is just a test" nobody cares. So I'm curious if they planned it but are simply unable to admit that it was intentional (for obvious reasons). Apparently the military is engaging in new/additional "what if" exercises at the moment, regarding a war with North Korea.

Maybe...I don't think they want another 'Nuclear Pearl Harbor' to happen.

Doubt it

Seems much more likely that a technical failure would trigger an automated alert compared to some overreaching plot to secretly test preparedness and successfully keep a lid on it

If they wanted to test preparedness they would have taken steps to educate the public about what to do and where to go. From the sounds of things online most folks just stayed at home, went to the beach, or started sleeping with their siblings.

You're probably right, but what better way to see what'd actually happen than just send the warning and watch?

They didn't test the full system though, normally there are supposed to sirens that sound beforehand and those weren't triggered as part of the test.

^ Yeah; I'd heard it was a mistake.

I'm curious how many people (if any) took it seriously.

my parents are there right now, and my mom was a little worried at first. but then she realized there is an anti missile defense system there, and she decided it would shoot it down. but also, they probably would target honolulu and she's on a different island

It was actually a flying saucer that was being perceived as an ICBM by the authorities.

Eventually it's going to be "leaked" that it was a rogue military satellite that fell out of orbit.

You saw here first, folks!

That's a poor conspiracy considering a satellite would burn in the atmosphere
