I felt extremely comfortable with my income until I bought a house.

I still feel reasonably comfortable, but also feel the need to be financially responsible and vote down anything that looks like a property tax increase.

So your take home pay is probably around 4k per month, after all taxes?

Which means you're saving about 2k per month, ~20k per year. If you play it all right, maybe in like 5 years or so you can put a down payment on a house and settle down permanently, itll be a good investment. Also you should get married so you can double your income.

Yeah don't really spend much on anything except essential stuff lately. Did have to buy like 3k in police gear the last month so that's been annoying

I drive a 2016 mustang, and I contribute i think 200 a check.

Honestly with rent that high and supporting 2 people on that income, I wouldn't call you poor, but you're definitely living way beyond your means. It sounds like you already know the tradeoffs that would come with a 2nd income, though.

Basically tough shit, and the only thing you can do for now is move somewhere cheaper.

I'm guessing you used to be able to save more and now feel scared because it doesn't feel as if you are saving a lot. I know that feel. The best thing to do once you have an emergency fund of 3-6 months of expenses saved is to invest money into things that grown in value so that your savings grow.

That's not really remotely true at all. I moved here from IL lol. I was making 25 dollars an IL. My apartment cost the same and it was a 1 bedroom craphole. Here I have a 3 bedroom with hardwood floors, private/gated community, designated parking spot, garage. Cost of living is way cheaper here
