This game kicks ass and if you're not careful it will kick your ass to. Ahh, the joys of old RPG's is something that nobody will enjoy and respect nowadays. Sure it's an old game but you will miss out on a great gaming experience if you don't play it. Ranting over with.

Awesome game, played with every combo of characters eventually hehe.

Robot and Demon I think were my favorites, but all were fun.

I miss it.

One of the few games I put on my SNES classic. Haven't replayed it yet though. I usually play Kamil as I prefer to play human males. Valsu is a support and who the hell plays a support as their main?

I was able to play Mother via Earthbound Zero on the virtual console... it's... it's, ok - it's a very poor RPG. I mean, the actual story is really good and there's some rather edgy stuff in it - but the battle system is SLOW and there are a ton of encounters. It's like playing Dragon Quest 2.

Dragon Quest 2 was fun. I don't mind the slow pace but what I can't stand is that the the Mother series are in Japanese except for Earthbound. I was trying to collect the series with this game but since no English version of the games were available I said screw it but the Dragon Quest series were awesome until they dropped off the face of the earth after Dragon Quest 3

Then you are not a true RPG fan. Grinding in a RPG is natural. Yeah, it's a pain in the ass but the game is still great. If you don't like grinding then that means the game is kicking your ass and you need to get back in there and keep fighting.

Yeah, both games are easy in the early stages but when you get into playing The 7th Saga you will see that's there's a huge difference between the two and believe me The 7th Saga will give you more of a challenge than FFVIII.

It's interesting how the other adventurers you face ends up leveling up with you so that's what makes the game challenging. It's like Lunar. No matter how high you level up the boss is going to level up with you. I just partner up with one of them, mostly Lux the Tetsujin and bulldoze through the game.

I'm using Olvan and Kamil and believe me things get very interesting with this combo but the only problem is that these 2 characters are very similar but in the end it pays off since both characters are powerhouses.

Yeah those guys are the strongest as well for those that use weapons. I think Lux and Wilme is the strongest ones. It's too bad the ending is the same, I wish they would've expanded on their individual stories more. Maybe in a remake, but I doubt Produce is around anymore.

Unfortunately, when you use Olvan or Kamil or if they're both paired up as a team you will always be constantly fighting and even though you have leveled up they're still certain enemies in the game that will give you a hard time and this game is very unforgiving if you try to run from battles cause a lot of times the game won't let you run which results in you getting your ass kicked and resetting the game which gets very annoying after a while.

I read through some of that topic you were talking about BTB. At first, I thought it was just me but I can't stand Mutants. Those things are a royal pain in the ass but when they are paired up with Cocoon that makes them even worse. Anyway, I much rather use a character like Olvan instead of another character that will allow you to go through the game very quickly. I always enjoy a good challenge and I'm not going to back down to from Mutant enemies just because they're a huge pain. Screw that.

Not entirely sure, the game is extremely unfair because of some coding mistakes that arose in the English version.

First-time player is pretty easily looking at 40-50 hours. Using speed characters and exploiting existing knowledge of the game, I can beat it in about 10.

While they technically level up with you, they actually grow far more powerful, much faster. The game was tweaked for the US release to make it much more difficult. The result is that you get reduced improvements upon leveling up, while the other adventurers continue as normal. So the NPCs you have to fight become powerful so fast that there's a point where you cannot win.

You can take advantage of this though, as any companion you get gains stats at the normal rate, not the reduced rate.

This gets brought up a lot. It's the one bug that everybody knows about (and will cite at any given opportunity as the main reason this game is so hard). What most people *don't* know is that it's nonexistent prior to level 10 and very minor prior to level 20. Battles with the other apprentices just boil down to killing them in a single hit 90% of the time, and a good player will be in Barluca *long* before the stat bug really starts to show its true colors.

honestly, you're really making me dislike this game. I like it in principle, like thematically. but all this crap just reeks of bad game design. if the game has been tweaked in such a way as to be *that* unplayable, then wtf, that's not a good game, that's the antithesis of a good game.

I'm not actually sure on this. On my current playthrough when I was trying to get the Sky Rune I had a couple problems with the apprentice and one of them was trying to get him/her to appear but once the apprentice did appear it was(drum roll)...Valsu which was very bad news for me. They're were 2 reasons for this(1)I was using Olvan(2)he was at level 27 which was a nightmare for Olvan. The only strategy I could use against Valsu was to power up Olvan, defend then attack and heal and hope I could get in a second strike. If my level had been any higher than 27 then Valsu would be unbeatable.
