The reason people think it's weird, @LittleRoyal, is just a big difference in cultures. The vast majority of us, we don't tell our parents shit. I mean (depending on the relationship) we talk about personal things, but things like our online activity? It's a completely separate life. For most of us, the idea of going up to our parents and talking about CE and its users is mind-boggling and one giant 'NOOOPE!'

Shed been asking what Im doing to waste my time on my phone for a while and has been scolding me, not to mention her warning me about using the internet safely and being careful what I do for a long time so its not like thanabo who doesnt want to hear it from his kid and yeah it could just be different cultures.

Idk how everyone grew up.

I was half joking. Like how I told my wife when I noticed some of my old 90's Playboys were missing from shelf, and said "if you don't want to see something you don't want to then don't go in his room if his door is closed". There are something about growing up that can be done alone, and some parents don't want to know or see. No more than my kids want to walk in on their mom and dad knocking the headboard against the wall. :-)

Over summer and winter otherwise I live at my uncles house while he and his family are off at another house they own. I live here to go to college but on breaks and random weekends I go to my dads.

Some things arent a two way street though.
Ive talked to my mom about my expirience s mostly for advice (not sexually but like emotionally and as for relationships, because anything sexual was when I wasnt emotionally great and was pretty desperate for approval from friends)

But its not like she could talk to me about her relationship issues or about doing that stuff.

Yes. It is really lonely and gets scary at night sometimes but its a good place. I kept kinda wanting to move in to like an apartment with friends but my mom betrayed me and told
My dad not to send me as much money and I even had to get a job so I cant really afford to pay rent on top of everything.

You are definitely not 21. You act like you're 7

I dont act 7 but Im playful sometimes. Chalk it up to culture or regional differences besides are you boring and professional and proper 24/7? You should know this site isnt exactly professional, I dont need to act like you (some random guy) expect me or want me to.

Whatever dude. I dont curse irl because it just sounds weird coming from myself since I never did as a kid and my voice is so upbeat and high pitched even when Im upset it just makes me feel strange. My friends think its hilarious when I do so I played around with it when I was bored.

Whatever I bet Im leaving soon anyway

I think its just most young people dont have healthy honest relationships with their parents and its weird to them that they would have a healthy honest relationship with their parents. Im American I can and do talk to my parents about most everything. TCs mom seems like a pretty honest, secure person too which is important to having a healthy honest relationship.

See, I'd like to have that kind of relationship. I think it also depends on the world view of the parent and child. I love my mom to pieces, but there are lines we just don't cross, conversationally. She's basically a stereotypical religious conservative. Sex? Nope. Politics? Nope. Religion? Nope. SFW Internet hobbies and video games? Nope.

Our relationship is pretty shallow, I admit, with the only thing we can talk about comfortably being mental illness. I don't know if i'd call that unhealthy, though. What are your thoughts?

Im sorry you guys cant talk about much...

If I was ever in a healthy long lasting relationship and was comfy having sex then I wouldnt talk about it to her.

Masaaybe some of my super close friends. But even then it seems embarrassing to like discuss what feels good. Theyve talked about masturbation in front of me but I pretend I dont partake and let them talk irl. you guys online are the only ones that know really except Im fairly sure I was caught which is embarrassing and obviously I couldnt do it for a while. But they also talk about sex and what feels good and if their bf is doing well etc.

I dont think that it is close world views that is required, rather compatible personalities. My father and I dont share much of the same in terms of world view but we both have forgiving personalities. We could have an argument and say mean things to one another but we both know that we are important to one another and we generally dont hold grudges. If either of us were inclined to hold grudges we would not be close. It doesnt hurt that neither of us want/have many friends either.

My mother and my relationship was more like the one you have, with her being pretty conservative Christian and pretty much noncompromising but as time went on and we both got older we grew closer because she realized some of the issues with her philosophy and corrected them.

I think the older the child gets the more in common you have with your parents because you have common life experience and you have more opportunities to prove to your parents that you can handle yourself and they dont have to wear their parent hat all the time. You dont have to have the same beliefs and hobbies to be friends with someone. It makes it easier to maintain a conversation but being friends with someone is more about mutual trust and reliability than having shit to talk about.

Of course, some people are just shitty people and you cant get along with them because either you or your parent just simply arent personable.

What you say makes a lot of sense. The older I've gotten, the better our relationship has gotten as well. But along the way I've grown to be pretty closed up when it comes to personal things or just a subject we wouldn't agree on, like with politics. Part of it is me, but then part of it is her in that she can get really emotional and if it's bad enough, she'll just stop talking for a while.
