VI, with a third of the others so close behind.

XIV is also really good, not just with updates to old tunes but with plenty of new ones of its own that are fantastic. That's to say nothing of XIV holding the current record for most unique music tracks in a MMO.

I like the soundtrack to 6 among the best, but 7 has a very pleasant soundfont - something that went away in the jump from MIDI to rendered music. 11 has some outstanding music, but because there's so much music in the game it averages lower.

12 has... music? I love FF12, but I can't recall even one song aside from perhaps one of the boss themes. 13's battle theme is kinda interesting, but ehhh

So I guess I could narrow it down to either 1, 6 or 7... I'd favour 6

Ahhh, you really think so? In that case, could you please find a playlist or soundtrack listing that contains FFBE's 300+ songs for me? I seem to be having trouble finding it myself. I'd love judging the variety and quality of each and every song from it for myself, especially all of the wonderful vocal tracks it must have.

Oh, and I'm happy to provide a link to a playlist of FFXIV's music for you if you haven't already gone through it all, but from your reports, I'm sure it offers nothing that FFBE doesn't at least have something similar to.

7 has one of the best soundtracks ever both for ingame and when listened to separately, 8 has many great songs like that as well, 9 has Black Mage Village, 10 had a song or two that were okay and X2 had a couple of good ones too, so yeah 7 wins by far, 8 is closest second place, then a toss up with a handful of third place wannabes and the rest is putrid filth, just stay away from the rest entirely, don't play, look at or listen to any of them under any circumstances. Really though, too many great tracks in too many of them to claim any one has the best. I think my personal favorite might be FFIX, but it changes depending on my mood. Also, FFV is underappreciated, probably largely because so few people have nostalgia attached to it. I mean, it even has Battle on the Big Bridge.

FFIII has some awesome tracks, like the Crystal Tower theme, I liked the FFII OST way more than I was expecting (the PSP version anyway), FF1 has many of the classic tracks the other games use, etc.

I think people should actually try out some of the other FF games besides the ones they played as a kid or whatever the newest one may be.

Cosmo Canyon is pretty dope, but it's not even the best tune in 7. I'd give that to either J-E-N-O-V-A or Birth of a God.

9 is probably the best... but 8 and 6 are pretty great as well.

(my top 3 is in the listed order)

VIII or IX, I can't decide which. Both have phenomenal soundtracks. VII also has many memorable tracks, though I feel like overall VIII and IX's soundtracks are better.

VIII definitely has the edge over IX as far as battle tracks, though, and this would probably put its soundtrack above IX's for me. Don't Be Afraid, Force your Way, The Man with the Machine Gun, Premonition, The Legendary Beast, Maybe I'm a Lion and The Extreme, one of the most underrated final boss themes in the entire series. All amazing tracks.

A lot of its area music is memorable to me, too. Balamb Garden, Timber, Esther, the scene musics...ya know...I think VIII actually does have my favorite soundtrack in the series, followed by IX.

To Zanarkand is without a doubt one of the best songs of the series. But aside from that and Other World I can't think of any other memorable tracks from the game.
