Total Crypto Marketcap: $750 Billion
Bitcoin Dominance: 34.1% (lowest in crypto history)
Ripple Marketcap: $130 Billion (17.3% of total crypto marketcap)

Ripple seems unstoppable lately, will it finally dethrone Bitcoin as the largest crypto, or will Bitcoin finally experience another rally?

Since it's being funded heavily directly by massive banks, it certainly seems to stand a solid chance of sticking around. That said, I think their tech is going to need to change a bit to really provide a viable service. We'll see.

I haven't decided to hop in on ripple but it does seem a bit appealing just from the speculative side.

Ripple already provides a viable service. 4 second transaction times. Super easy to change currencies quickly.

Ripple will definitely overtake Bitcoin before long.

Which is perfectly fine and in no way prevents it from hitting $15 per Ripple or more.

what's the best way to move your BTC in Coinbase to Eth?

I feel like BTC is dying and want out, while eth will see some good gains.

True

I absolutely see the use in Ripple and understand how it's going to be massive

I just hate seeing noobs think "hey, a $3 coin? If I buy 50 and they all get to Bitcoin's price I'll be rich!" You have to wonder how much of its recent mega rally from $0.2 to $3.15 was dumb money that will get absolutely demolished at a standard correction

Think it would it be better to move it to Bittrex, and then trade it for Eth there? Buying and selling on Coinbase is a crazy $200 in fees if I did all my BTC to Eth. It's 'just' $16 to transfer my BTC to Bittrex.

it might be. check bittrex's rates. it could still be cheaper to move it there and convert.

This seems ideal. However, apparently the IRS sees every crypto trade as a taxable event. Say I trade BTC for Ripple, I have to pay taxes for that. I traded a bunch of alt coin before realizing this and it's going to be a nightmare trying to pick up the pieces and find out what I owe.

Flaming Evil Homer asked this about Eth's price in the last general:

But i realistically should expect it going to the moon at highest like 5,000? Not realistic to go to BTC prices?

In response, actually Eth will absolutely pass $5,000, and $15,000. So many valuable tokens are built on Ethereum and it will be incredibly valuable within the next few years.

you only pay tax on the profit iirc

so you can just calculate the total profit you made and pay income tax on it
