This is Canada, and here over the past decade or so we've had a Foreign worker program implemented because of labor shortage, and all the corporations abuse it to hell and back, so they all hire foreign workers instead of Canadian workers. What was supposed to be a program to help labor shortage eventually took a complete 180 and now it's almost impossible for us to get jobs. If our government doesn't want us to have jobs then fuck it. Yeah, it did become such a problem, one Edmonton McDonald's was forced to close down because of breaking the law with the foreign worker thing. They basically fired all their Canadian staff (citing they didnt need that much staff) and replaced all of them of Filipino workers Why wouldn't they when they were able to offer the TFW below minimum wage? Yay capitalism There were major issues where I live of people abusing the system. Business owners that own homes were employing people below minimum wage and getting that meager bit of earnings back by charging room and board, threatening to revoke the work permits for employees that wouldn't go along with it. It was not just atrocious for human rights, it bottomed out the wages offered across many industries. Yet, part of the program was saying you cant fire existing staff to bring them in Can't fire them... Can schedule them so terribly the Canadians can't continue to work for you and support themselves. It was really bad here.
