Not sure what they want, so I deleted the voicemail without listening to it.

How likely is it that a strike team will breach my house?

Your only option is to burn your house down and erase the evidence

Just ignore debt collectors. They have no real power.

Even if they take you to court you can just ask for proof of debt and they won't have it.

You should pay the original person you owe however. Like if it is a hospital bill, you can still pay the hospital. Then it is up to the debt collector to negotiate with the hospital over their loss from buying the debt from the hospital.

I don't think that's correct because you can sell debt.

When they sell the debt they rarely give them anything that proves you owe them.

If you don't believe me then you can listen to Ira Glass tell you it:

Basically, debt collection is about scaring the poop out of you till you pay. Of course if you admit to owing the debt you will have to pay them as well.

I've owed a hospital 400 bucks for like a year now

I got 3 letters from debt collectors threatening to come and take my stuff

It's never happened, don't worry about it, TC. It's basically like when internet providers give you warnings to not pirate stuff or whatever

Essentially Ash, the idea is a debt was sold to a collection agency.

Lets say you did owe a debt. But how much?

How can the agency prove the number they ask of you is correct?
What if you say all you owe is $1? How can they say that is incorrect?

Bottom line is they can't. The hospital can but they literally don't care anymore since they sold the debt and they didn't give their records to the debt agency.

Good chance it wasnt for you. Collectors call any numbers associated with the debt which can be your number because you live in the same apartment the real debtor used to live in.
